HOKA MACH 5:
FAST TRAININGS AND ROAD COMPETITIONS SHOES.
150€ | 232G. | 5MM DROP
The lovechild of Mach 4 and Mach Supersonic, this lively pavement pounder is built for performance and ready to race. Sporting a stripped back creel mesh upper and lay-flat tongue, the new Mach 5 delivers a snappier ride with PROFLY’s stacked midsole setup, offering a lightweight, responsive foam directly underfoot and rubberised EVA below.
How it’s different – It has a little more “oomph” behind it – both in performance and ride characteristics.
Why you’ll love it – This up-tempo ride was designed to keep your feet feeling fresh, no matter the tempo.

MIDSOLE
The midsole of the Mach 5 has one of the great novelties of this new version. A midsole divided into two parts, an upper part with the new ProFly + compound with the aim of having a lighter and more reactive foam placed directly under the foot and EVA rubber, to enjoy a good cushioning in the lower part of the midsole.
This new version retains one of the highlights of the previous version and is its characteristic Meta-Rocker geometry, rocker type, with which we will obtain the necessary reactivity to run at fast rhythms.
SOLE
Both on the cover and in the midsole we have seen that the shoe presents novelties with respect to the previous version, but with regard to the sole, the continuity with respect to the MACH 4 is the highlight since it retains material (EVA rubber) as the design of the sole.
Despite not having the presence of rubber in the areas with more contact with the surface, the density of the EVA rubber guarantees, a priori, a good durability of the sole, but this aspect would have to be checked after performing the thorough test of the shoe.
HOKA MACH 5 VS CLIFTON 8 & RINCON 3
MACH 5 vs. CLIFTON 8
The Mach 5 is designed to offer both a soft landing and responsive toe off while the Clifton 8 is built for cushioning, minimal weight and a uniquely smooth ride.
20 grams lighter than the Clifton 8, The Mach 5 is equipped with Hoka’s Super Critical Foam for a more dynamic, responsive and lightweight ride experience. The Clifton 8 is equipped with the traditional lower density EVA foam for more cushion and comfort.
The Clifton 8 has a cushioned tongue for everyday comfort while the Mach 5 sports a flat gusseted tongue for a snug fit.
MACH 5 vs. RINCON 3
Both Rincon 3 and Mach 5 are lightweight trainers designed to handle both daily training and up-tempo efforts. The Rincon 3 is slightly less cushioned and 14 grams lighter than the Mach 5.
Rincon 3 offers a single density lightweight foam designed for a softer ride while Mach 5 is designed to offer both a soft landing and responsive toe-off.
HOKA MACH 5: CONCLUSIONS
The new Hoka Mach 5 promises to be one of the most popular mixed shoes (fast trainings and competition) on the market and is that, with the improvements introduced, we have a very versatile shoe that can reach a wide range of runners.
Light and fast runners are the ones who can squeeze this shoe more thoroughly, both in their training and in competitions and there is life beyond the shoes with carbon plate to run at very fast paces and that are not suitable for all types of runners.
With the data that we have received, so far, shows a very lightweight shoe, only 233 grams, lower than the MACH SUPERSONIC that seeks to be the fast training and comprtition shoe “par excellence” to run many kilometers without an assisted carbon fiber plate.
Without the reactivity that a model with a plate can have but reactive enough to train cheerfully and get high quality rhythms, with great comfort thanks to the new ProFly+ foam developed in the midsole.
The good fit of the foot in the shoe, the comfort when running, the wide protection of the Achilles heel and a cover that improves in lightness and breathability are other aspects to highlight in this new version of one of the most popular sagas of mixed hoka shoes.
Summarizing, a shoe designed to fly on the asphalt, with a great balance and ratio weight-performance and with an average price.
