LA GRANDE COURSE-ALTITOY 2022: READY, STEADY AND GO…

Thinking at March is thinking at the great classic races. This month is synonymous with La Grande Course. This weekend in the French Pyrenees, the curtain will rise on the new 2022/2023 biennium with the legendary Altitoy. For the 13th edition in the Luz Ardiden and Tourmalet-Pic du Midi areas, almost 400 athletes are expected to compete in two days of pure adrenaline.

One thing is for sure: from Col de Riou to the Ardiden lakes, from Lienz forest to the peaks which reach the 3000m of Gavarnie,  both amateurs and great champions will be able to test their legs and condition ahead of Millet Tour du Rutor Extrême, the only round of the ISMF World Championship scheduled at the end of the month.

ALTITOY 2022: THE FAVOURITES.

As for predictions… It’s hard to dare. Given the injury suffered on Sunday by William Boffelli from Bergamo, it is to consider if his partner Alex Oberbacher will be able to find a last minute replacement who can be up to the task.

The expert Filippo Beccari has been confirmed and will be teamed up with the sudtiroler Martin Stofner, the recent winner of the 2000m Mountain Attack. In the women’s category, the spotlight is on polish Anna Tybor, paired with the italian Natalia Mastrota.  Locally, the pairs of Lander Álvarez – Aitor Otxoa, Asier Alonso – Jon Ander Aranburu, Haimar Zubeldia – Joseba Zubeldia (former cyclists) and the female pairs Nahia Quincoces – Igone Campos and Uxue Fraile – Lur Basterretxea stand out.

THE STAGES 2022

The opening stage will be Altitoy taking place on the weekend of 19th and 20th March. The pyrenean two-days race, leading athletes on the celebrated mountains of Tour de France cycling challenge, has already opened the registrations and very soon it will suggest special offers for skialpers which will need to use airplanes.

Millet Tour du Rutor Extrême, the unique stage of ISMF World Championship on the agenda during the weekend of 31st March – 02nd April, will raise the bar. Keep in mind the first important date of 9th January  in which the secretary of Ski Club Corrado Gex will officially open the registrations. In order to celebrate in the best way the 20th edition of TDR, Marco Camandona and his staff will propose a three-days competition which is really one-of-a-kind, with a new prologue on La Thuile mountains. This is a unique opportunity to experience first-hand an historic race redesigned with a modern twist.

April will be marked by a top event: La Patrouille des Glaciers and its alpine climbing of 57,5 km and 4386 m of positive difference in height. PDG 2022 will take place during the night between 30th April and 1st May.
