LA GRANDE COURSE 2022: ALTITOY, TOUR DE RUTOR & PATROULLE DES GLACIERS. Our SKI section brings us today the news about La Grande Course and its races for this 2022.

This season “La Grande Course” will be composed of Altitoy, Tour de Rutor y Patrouille des Glaciers. In 2023 it will continue with Pierra Menta, Adamello Ski Raid y Mezzalama Trophy.

LA GRANDE COURSE 2022:
ALTITOY, TOUR DE RUTOR & PATROULLE DES GLACIERS

The Grande Course is made up only of pure ski touring/skimo events: Stage races that are contested in the high mountains by teams of 2-3 participants, recovering the original spirit of this sport, where they share ascents and descents through couloirs, ridges and ridges , combining the techniques of skiing and mountaineering.

CALENDAR

After two extremely difficult winter seasons, the organizing committee for La Grande Course is ready to start again: “When it was asked us to stop we were the first to take the decision, argued the president Marco Camandona -, But now, by taking the proper precautions, we are ready to start again understanding that sport can be a flywheel for the recovery. These days we are preparing a Covid-19 protocol in order to guarantee the security for athletes and sport professionals. We will have a shared protocol for all the stages which will be modified and adjusted according to the restrictions in force in each coutry. The most important thing is that, following the right procedures, we can restart”.

THE RACES 2022/2023

The coming year will be an important season for the circuit of the most beautiful and prestigious competitions of the Alps and Pyrenees: “In 2022 we will have three stages: Altitoy Ternua, Millet Tour du Rutor Extrême, which will also count for ISMF Long Distance World Championship and Patrouille des Glaciers, while in 2023 to close the circuit we will have Pierra Menta, Adamello Ski Raid and Mezzalama Trophy”.

THE QUALIFYING RACES

The group of the “affiliated races”, that is the competitions that allow a preferential access during the registrations to LGC is getting bigger and higher quality level: “We strongly believe in the project which is giving us great satisfaction – continued Camandona -.

During the last two years we were able to select several high level competitions which could increase the alpinistic skills of the athletes and allow them to get the necessary technical background in order to compete in the celebrated “great classic races” of LGC. These highly recommended races provide a kind of wild card to the finishers to get direct access to LGC stages”.

THE STAGES 2022

The opening stage will be Altitoy Ternua taking place on the weekend of 19th and 20th March. The pyrenean two-days race, leading athletes on the celebrated mountains of Tour de France cycling challenge, has already opened the registrations and very soon it will suggest special offers for skialpers which will need to use airplanes.

Millet Tour du Rutor Extrême, the unique stage of ISMF World Championship on the agenda during the weekend of 31st March – 02nd April, will raise the bar. Keep in mind the first important date of 9th January  in which the secretary of Ski Club Corrado Gex will officially open the registrations. In order to celebrate in the best way the 20th edition of TDR, Marco Camandona and his staff will propose a three-days competition which is really one-of-a-kind, with a new prologue on La Thuile mountains. This is a unique opportunity to experience first-hand an historic race redesigned with a modern twist.

April will be marked by a top event: La Patrouille des Glaciers and its alpine climbing of 57,5 km and 4386 m of positive difference in height. PDG 2022 will take place during the night between 30th April and 1st May.
