SALOMON S/LAB 2022
TWO ASSSITED PLATE SHOES AND MUCH MORE

The demands for more technical running footwear, apparel and gear increases every year as the top athletes on the trail, the road and the track continue to push the boundaries of what is possible—both in terms of where they run and how fast they move. Whether establishing new Fastest Known Times (FKTs) on legendary trails, besting trail race records or shattering longstanding road and track times, the notion of what’s humanly possible seems to be limitless these days. New technology in trail and road running shoes has certainly played a role in these efforts.

The Salomon S/LAB running range for Spring/Summer 22 is designed for runners whose goal is to  compete at the highest level, or at least better themselves every time they lace up their shoes and put their toes on the starting line. Through collaborative development efforts with top athletes like trail running legend Kilian Jornet, the S/LAB running range offers a number of technical footwear and apparel options designed to help athletes go fast and feel light.

Most notably for Spring/Summer ’22, Salomon brings a composite fiber plate to its road road-running range with the S/LAB Phantasm CF, and updates the ultra-light and precise S/LAB Pulsar trail running shoe (Kilian’s shoe of choice) with a Softground version designed to tackle more technical terrain.

ENERGY BLADE: THE NEW TRAIL BASE

To reduce the gap opened by carbon plates that have been in other brands for years, Salomon has developed a new technology called Energy Blade. The basis of it, as claimed by the French brand, is to adopt an original approach to the development of carbon-coated footwear.

For this, an insert technology has been created that will adjust to the needs of different types of runners. This involves adjusting the insert material on each Salomon running shoe model, as well as the precise placement of the insert within the shoe to meet the needs of certain categories of runners.

SALOMON S/LAB PULSAR SOFTGROUND:
LIGHTNESS AND GRIP FOR TECHNICAL RUNS.

In Spring/Summer 2021, Salomon released the S/Lab Pulsar, an ultra-light trail-running shoe that helped Kilian Jornet break the 16-year-old Sierre-Zinal course record in Switzerland in 2019. This year, Salomon adds a Softground version of the S/LAB Pulsar. The S/LAB Pulsar Softground is fast, lightweight (194g), and will keep you secure on muddy or wet trails.

It still has Salomon’s lightest midsole, but the outsole now boasts longer lugs (4.5 mm) and a new, ultra-grippy lug construction to keep you safe on technical terrain. Thanks to the reinforced and breathable Matryx mesh, the shoe cradles your foot like a glove, while strategic cushioning helps keep you agile on that technical terrain.
