Some of the races, in comparison with last year, will modify part of their route, dates, times and places of departure, in order to improve the experience of participants and followers. The appointment we brought live, brought together elites and popular in a great atmosphere. Here our special section ARAN BY UTMB 2021 with all the references of an event that also had our editor Mayayo crossing the finish line in the PDA55k.

The Val d’Aran is an enclave full of history. Border with France, it has a unique climate, perpetual snows, exquisite gastronomy, language uniqueness and a strong cultural heritage. Whatever the distance, the organization has tried that the participants of the different tests discover the most striking of the Valley formed in 95% of its territory by pure nature, willing to be trapped by the grandeur of its imposing mountains.

As an extra, the finalists of the three ultras included in Val d’Aran by UTMB® will earn points for registration for the UTMB® 2023 races.

Inauguration of Val d’Aran by UTMB®, presentation of races (VDA, CDH, PDA, and SKY) with the presence of the elites and first edition of the TR2 distance

Although the official races will not begin until Thursday, July 7, on Wednesday 6, at 18:30 in the town of Tredòs, the presentation of the event will take place. In it will be the athletes most likely to become the first finishers in their corresponding distances to ring the already famous bell, hallmark of Val d’Aran by UTMB®. An hour later, and from the same place, the TR2 will depart for the first time, a 4-kilometer race with a novel and special format, which aspires to become another of the indispensable events of the week, with volunteers as the main protagonists, sharing the route with elites and anyone who dares to participate.

Places will be limited and may be subject to a draw.

PEADES D’AIIGUA- PDA  | 55 KM | 3300 M+| 07.30 AM | The PDA, Peades d’Aigua, will experience some of the most significant changes of the second edition of Val d’Aran by UTMB® as it modifies its day, time and place of departure. The departure of the 55 kilometres with 3,300 meters of elevation gain and 3,700 meters of elevation loss will be waiting for you in this adventure through Naut Aran’s mountains.

A race that reaches 2,600m above sea level, where the National Park of “Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici” takes center stage. A fast but demanding race.

CAMINS D’HÈR – CDH | 105 KM 6.100m D+| 06.00 AM | The CDH 105 km will be “earlier” for runners to gain daylight hours. Camins d’Hèr, the CDH, also presents several modifications both in its schedule and in its route. The 105 km race advances its start by 90 minutes compared to the previous edition, which will allow participants to run for more hours of light and enjoy the spectacular landscapes offered by the road. The HRC will continue to depart from the town of Les, but will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8.

In addition, there will be variations in the final section to soften the hardness of the route, and the provisioning of Arties is incorporated, with assistance allowed, replacing Ressec.

The SKY Baqueira-Beret will have two categories On Saturday, July 9, it will be the turn of the runners of theSKY Baqueira-Beret, a race that along its 15 km offers some of the best views of the Val d’Aran.

On this occasion there will be two departures from the Pla de Beret:

  • SKY Promise: It will begin at 9:30 a.m. and runners from 16 to 20 years old can participate. The SKY Promesa was born with the purpose of promoting the sport among the youngest and becoming a competitive reference for the new generations of trail runners.
  • SKY Master: The starting gun will be at 10:30 a.m., for all those 21 years and older.

The outdoor festival dedicated to families and companions, will take place on July 9. Throughout the morning there will be children’s races, games and activities, and you can encourage the VDA runners, who will already have 100 km in their legs.

In 2022, any runner will be able to register directly for the Val d’Aran by UTMB races. However, it is important to be aware of the demands of the terrain. Val d’Aran by UTMB® is not an event to get started in trail running races.

Therefore, the organization recommends having a UTMB Index, that is, a performance level, minimum of 400 in the race category (100M, 100k and 50k) that is going to be carried out since it is the value with which the cutting hours are set.

With a UTMB® Index below that figure it is very likely that the runner will not be able to overcome the cut-off barriers by not complying with the established times, so it is advisable not to register either in the VDA, or in the HRC with a UTMB® Index less than 400. Places will be awarded in strict order of registration.

The finishers of the Val d’Aran by UTMB® races will get Running Stones to enter the draw for the UTMB World Series Finals, that is, the UTMB®, CCC® and OCC races of the UTMB® Mont-Blanc. The Running Stones are cumulative and the more you own, the more likely you are to get a place.

After hosting more than 3,000 runners of 62 different nationalities in 2021, Val d’Aran by UTMB® faces its second edition with the purpose of improving the experience of attendees and consolidating itself as a reference event in the world of trail running.
