VALENCIA HALF MARATHON 2021: WOMEN WORLD RECORD GIDEY 1h.02.52. Spectacular 30th anniversary of Valencia’s Half Marathon with a  world record and 12,000 popular runners.

VALENCIA HALF MARATHON 2021

8.30AM Race Start! Good conditions in Valencia for the elite today, with about 13 degrees and winds of just 10km/h. The start announces a gram race. If in 2020 we had a men’s world record here, today it is perhaps more likely to see the women’s.
In the men’s, the 20 years of the Spanish record Fabián Romcero (59.52) may end today with the duel between Carlos Mayo and Chiqui Pérez.

ABEL KITCHUMBA 58.07 MEN’S CHAMPION

Great final sprint with Kipruto, best world record of the year. Carlos Mayo entered as the first Spaniard with 1.00.57 which is a great mark, the third best Spanish in history.

The Kenyan Abel Kipchumba has been proclaimed winner of the test with a mark of 58:07, which becomes the best world record of 2021, 41 seconds faster than the previous one (58:48) that was also his.

After Kipchumba they crossed the finish line Rhonex Kipruto, who entered in 58:09 and Daniel Mateiko, with 58:26.

WORLD RECORD LETESENBET GIDEY! 1.02.52

The Ethiopian, who holds the world 5000m and 10,000m on track, added the half-marathon record with an exhilarating display of distance running to wipe 1:11 from the previous world record.

On a sunny day in “The City of Running” Letesenbet hit the 10km split in an eye-popping 29:45 some 35 seconds on the world record pace of Ruth Chepng’etich.

By the 15km mark – which she hit in 44:29 – she was a remarkable 1:01 ahead of world record schedule.

Running with her beautifully rhythmic style, the 23-year-old maintained her astonishing pace to re-write the record books and point to a future on the road of infinite possibilities.
