TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023: ADVANCED 84K, RACE PREVIEW AND FAVOURITES

TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023: ADVANCED 84K, RACE PREVIEW AND FAVOURITES. Our TRANSGRANCANARIA section already travels in Carnivals to the round island, from where one more year we will bring you a new edition of its great mountain races live from FEB 22-26.

TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023:

ADVANCED 84K/4.900M+

The Transgrancanaria Advanced has many new features for this year’s edition. The main one is its start, which this year moves to Agaete and due to this change, the mountain race has an increase in distance, which goes up to 84 kilometers, and also increases the hardness, since it goes up to about 5,000 meters of positive slope.

The test has about 700 registered and will begin next Saturday, February 25, at eight in the morning from the old pier of Las Nieves. The Transgrancanaria thus returns to its origins, with a game in a spectacular setting. The runners will cross the Agaete Valley through the Era de Berbique until they reach Artenara, where they will link up with the Classic route to the finish line located in the South Park of Maspalomas.
Runners will have a maximum time of 22 hours to complete the test. It proves that it will also be the Ultra Canary Islands Championship.

TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023: ADVANCED 84KM FAVOURITES

WOMEN

In the women’s category we will have as a great favorite the winner on two occasions of the Classic and another one in the Advanced, Azara García de los Salmones, who will try to win the gold medal again. But the fight for this victory will be close, we also have to count on the Finnish Johanna Antila, who has been on the Island for several days recognizing the route, and the British Katie Kaars, who already finished sixth in the test last year as candidates for the triumph. We cannot forget either the Swiss Kathrin Götz, fourth last year in the Classic, or the British Meryl Cooper, who also ran the Advanced last year, and will try to improve her fourth place.

The Transgrancanaria Advanced will also be the venue for the Canary Islands Championship of mountain races in the ultra modality organized by the Canarian Mountain Federation (Fecamon). The main favorite to win said title will be Graciela Acosta, but we will also have to take Claudia Mola and Marcia Ramos into account.

MEN

In the Men’s category, the current Portuguese ultras champion, André Rodrígues, will be the rival to beat among the men. The Portuguese from the Scarpa team arrives at the Transgrancanaria, where he will premiere his title of Portuguese champion of mountain races in ultra mode achieved last January.

But the list of favorites is long, and we cannot forget George Foster and Josh Wade who arrived from the United Kingdom, Marcos Ramos González from Aragon, Gabriel Santos Rueda from Argentina, Cedric Chavet from France and Marc Ollé from Catalonia.

For the Canary Islands Championship of mountain races in ultra mode, the favorites among the boys are Esteban García, who initially appears as the main favorite for victory, although he will have to recover from the El Gigante Vertical Kilometer, the Starter and the Marathon that will play the three previous days.
Thus, the victory could also be between Albi Cedrés, David Lutzardo, Carmelo González, Sergio Machín, Aitor Navarro and Juan Manuel León.
