SALOMON TRAIL RUNNING 2023:
NEW GLIDE MAX TRAIL, PULSAR TRAIL PRO 2, SENSE RIDE 5 AND MORE

As the leader in trail running for the past two decades, Salomon has supported many of the top athletes in the sport. From ultra-running to “shorter” marathon distance races like those found on the Golden Trail Series, the Salomon team has long been the gold standard at the professional level.

When it comes to footwear, the primary concern of everyday runners is not the weight, the presence of a blade or the drop. Based on market research, 80% of runners desire comfort from their trail running shoes more than any other performance characteristic.

SALOMON TRAIL RUNNING 2023: OFFICIAL NEWS

Based on these studies, for the Spring/Summer 2023 season, Salomon presents its most comfortable trail running shoes to date, in addition to updating some of the iconic models that have built the brand’s reputation in this sport.

In 2012, Salomon’s materials team was developing the first foam used in Salomon footwear, called OptiVibe. After years of work on materials and biomechanics, this team created Energy Surge foam, which is now used in most of the French brand’s road and trail running shoes.

In this way and inspired by the recent success of the Glide Max asphalt shoe and the Ultra Glide trail running shoe, Salomon presents for spring/summer 2023 the new and cushioned Glide Max Trail. Likewise, the aforementioned Ultra Glide is also getting an update making it more breathable.

And two trail running icons, the XA Pro 3D v9 and the Sense Ride 5, also come with new features, such as a new outsole with more grip. Another novelty for this 2023, are the X-Adventure, inspired by the XA Pro 3D v9, which come with a generous fit and a soft interior.

And within these day-to-day shoes, one that is more of a competition missile, the Pulsar Trail Pro 2, which comes with an updated, more breathable upper.

For faster runners, the Pulsar Trail Pro 2 is updated in the same way as the SLAB PULSAR 2. A new engineered mesh shell creates a lighter, more breathable feel.

It seeks to be as light, precise and dynamic as its predecessor, and in conjunction with this updated upper and heel construction combine to deliver a sock-like fit that cradles the foot like a glove. The mesh construction also keeps dirt out of the sock liner and insole.

SALOMON PULSAR TRAIL PRO 2: HIGHLIGHTS

Just like the first model did, the Pulsar Trail Pro 2 uses Salomon’s Energy Blade technology to propel the runner forward and help him run faster.

  • NEW UPPER: A new upper with engineered mesh creates a lighter feeling and more breathability in the shoe.
  • ENERGY BLADE TRAIL RUNNING: Energy Blade is a lightweight TPU plate built into the springy midsoles. Thanks to a unique synergy with the midsole foam and geometry, it activates forward propulsion and ensures smooth, stable transitions in all trail conditions. The blade is paired with the Energy Surge foam in the midsole to create a super springy and comfortable feeling.
  • ENERGY SURGE: Made up of one of the softest Salomon’s EVA compounds and 30% natural rubber, Fuze Surge foam is pillowy for instant comfort and responsive enough to keep rebound levels high. Engineered using less artificial polymers, this midsole compound delivers a more earth-conscious, smooth yet dynamic stride.

Made up of one of our softest EVA compounds and 30% natural rubber, Fuze Surge foam is pillowy for instant comfort and responsive enough to keep rebound levels high. Engineered using less artificial polymers, this midsole compound delivers a more earth-conscious, smooth yet dynamic stride. As with the Pulsar saga and the Energy Surge foam midsole, we expect the same softness as the preceding two which Salomon says provides 40% more responsiveness than their “prior” foams, we can assume as compared to Energy Cell+ but will confirm.

  • REVERSE CHAMBER:  Inspired by Salomon’s ski heritage, this curved midsole geometry helps you feel like you are floating over the ground and the three shoes are bulit with it.

  • CONTRAGRIP OUTSOLE: As always, the Contagrip MA outsole will keep you steady and safe, with an optimized lug geometry that does the job even on fast and gnarly rides.

SALOMON XA PRO 3D v9

The XA Pro 3D v9 is as reliable as it is familiar to hiking, trail-running, mountain biking, and travelling enthusiasts. For its 20th birthday, the shoe is getting an update in terms of comfort and durability, with a new asymmetrical design. The XA Pro 3D v9 is made with an Energy Cell midsole that provides energy return and cushioning over the long haul. The outsole uses a new specific lug geometry and pattern, combining the previous pattern of the XA Pro 3D v8 with the pattern of the X Ultra hiking shoe.

Those features combine with a new compound, the All-Terrain Contagrip, to create unbeatable grip and durability. The shoe does everything equally well and is extremely stable thanks to the trustworthy low profile 3D Advanced Chassis, which keeps your foot in place and provides underfoot protection. It also has a robust toe cap to protect your foot from rocks and tree stumps.

“The XA Pro came to life in 2002, when Salomon really made their first impression in adventure racing and it was a big part of our trail-running heritage, and who we are today,” explains James Boyes, Product Line Manager for Trail-running.
