GOLDEN TRAIL WORLD SERIES 2023: CALENDAR OPENING AT ZEGAMA AND GRAND FINALE IN ITALY. Our GOLDEN TRAIL SERIES section bring us today the 2023 calendar of the GTWS.
This 2023 comes with a new schedule, starting in Spain, Zegama-Aizkorri and finishing in Italy after an exciting 2022 season that ended in a spectacular final in Madeira, with the wins of Rémi Bonnet (Team Salomon / Red Bull, Switzerland) and Nienke Brinkman (Team Nike Trail, Netherlands). Lets start reviewing how Kilian Jornet was flying in the last Sierre-Zinal, also part of the Golden Trail World Series this 2023.

CALENDAR OPENING AT ZEGAMA AND GRAND FINALE IN ITALY.
For its 2023 edition, the Golden Trail World Series returns to the trails that made it a success and the runners enjoyed. In addition to the three essential classics—Zegama, Marathon du Mont-Blanc, Sierre-Zinal—there will also be two other GTWS races this year: the Dolomyths Run in Italy and the Pikes Peak Ascent in the United States. There will only be one new event this 2023 season: Mammoth 26K – the Mammoth Trail Fest – in California.

GOLDEN TRAIL WORLD SERIES 2023: OPENING AT ZEGAMA-AIZKORRI
The most mediatic mountain marathon in Spain, the Zegama-Aizkorri, returns this 2023 with all the honors: being the inaugural event of the Golden Trail World Series and celebrating its 22st edition, which will not miss, for sure, the best athletes in the world.

- 14 May: Zegama-Aizkorri, Spain — 42 km / 2,736 m D+*
- 25 June: Marathon du Mont-Blanc, France — 42 km / 2,540 m D+
- 15 July: Dolomyths Run, Italy — 22 km / 1,750 m D+
- 12 August: Sierre-Zinal, Switzerland – 31 km / 2,200 m D+
- 16 September: Pikes Peak Ascent, United States — 21 km / 2,382 m D+
- 23 September: Mammoth 26K—Mammoth Trail Fest, United States — 26 km / 1,400 m D+
- From 19 to 22 October: Grand Finale, Il Golfo dell’Isola Trail Race, Italy — 23 km / 1,200 m D+ (+ prologue).
GOLDEN TRAIL WORLD SERIES 2023: GRAND FINALE AT IL GOLFO DELL’ISOLA TRAIL RACE.
In 2023, the Liguria region of Italy was chosen to host the GTWS Grand Final. The event—Il Golfo dell’Isola Trail Race—will consist of a prologue and a run of approximately 25 km with 1,200 m D+.
The women’s prologue will be on the Thursday and the men’s on the Friday, and the women’s race is on the Saturday, while the men’s is on the Sunday. All races are open to everyone and will feature both OPEN and ELITES ranking, as well as a team ranking of the best Golden Trail National Series.
GTWS 2023: WITHOUT WADA OFICIAL ANTI-DOPING CONTROLS
It should be noted that while the official federative entities such as Skyrunning and the WMRA World Cup do support WADA as the official world anti-doping agency, the Golden Trail Series is not required to do so as it is a private circuit. Instead, they rely on the private “Quartz Program” of “Athletes for Transparency” for health guarantees.
This duality generated an incident in 2022 with the 2019 World Champion Joe Gray (USA). WADA as the only official agency of world sport. His reasons are based on the fact that the Quartz system did not offer him the same health or legal guarantees.
