MARATHON DES SABLES 2022: 250 KM, 6 STAGES AND 7 DAYS AT THE MARROCAN SAHARA. Our section MARATHON DES SABLES bring as today the preview of the 36th Edition of the Marathon des Sables, which starts tomorrow 25th March in the Marrocan Sahara desert.
From March 25 to April 4, 2022, the 36th edition of this challenge will be held, organized by his alma mater and French adventurer living in Spain: Patrick Bauer. The dean race of ultradistances in self-sufficiency returns with great enthusiasm.

6 STAGES AND 7 DAYS AT THE MARROCAN SAHARA.
From March 25 to April 4, the 36th Marathon des Sables (MDS) will host a thousand participants from all over the world, 70 of them Spanish. During the challenge the adventurers will be tested facing the complicated conditions of southern Morocco in self-sufficiency, guided only by their strength of improvement, motivation and by the essential company of the rest of the athletes.
Return to April dates after a 35th edition last October extremely hard
Thousands of athletes have already put themselves to the test by taking on a demanding challenge at the Marathon des Sables, an event in which runners face food self-sufficiency and the extreme weather conditions of the Moroccan desert, in which temperatures range between 45º C during the day and 5º C at night.
After the 35th MDS of 2021, one of the most extreme editions to date, a new challenge returns, which will surely mean a real introspection for the thousand registered.
Each participant must carry their own backpack with their food and other mandatory materials, including a compass, which will be very useful to not lose their way between the dunes even despite knowing the way and having a guide of the route that is delivered the day before the start of the event.
The organization closely follows all its competitors from the mobile camp of the race thanks to the use of SPOT® beacons and, although the road is perfectly signposted… if the wind picks up, following the signs can become a somewhat complicated task.
MARATHON DES SABLES 2022: TECHNICAL DATA
- 36th edition
- Moroccan Sahara, the track is secret until the day before the start 1st stage
- Ultra trail in the desert, in conditions of food self-sufficiency (the organization only provides water)
- 6 stages (a total of 7 days), approximately 250 km in total
- The first stage after security checks starts on March 27th and the last is on April 1st
- More than 500 people in organization, 60 of whom are health personnel
- Participation 36th edition 2022 exceeds 1,000 registered
- More than 25,000 participants in this event since 1986
