Last night at 11pm the Lavaredo Ultra Trail 120k race also started. Today at 8am the program completes the 80km Ultra Dolomites start.
LAVAREDO ULTRA TRAIL 2021: DAY 2.
ANTONIO MARTINEZ & ELISA DESCO WIN CORTINA TRAIL (48K/ 2.600M+)
The Spanish and the Italian shone yesterday on the second day of La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail, winning the 48-kilometer race and lowering the race record. At 11pm the queen race started: Lavaredo Ultra Trail: 120 kilometers and 5,800 meters.
DAY 2 AT LAVAERADO ULTRA TRAIL: THE RECORDS CONTINUE
In fact, yesterday we celebrated double records. And it is the third that falls this year after the Cortina Skyrace disputed yesterday, where another Spanish Alex García Carrillo set the first one of the year in the debut race, the times achieved in the past seasons have also been lowered today at this Cortina Trail: both in men as in women.
CORTINA TRAIL, EL TRAZADO. (48K/2600M+)
The Cortina Trai is, like its sisters, a race that starts and finishes in Cortina, on the very central Corso Italia. Along the way, it offers perhaps the most balanced route for the popular runner: there are 48 kilometers and 2,600 meters of climbing in which this year there were 1,200 competitors (out of 1,350 registered)
The route, we have run under continuous storms with thunder, lightning … and hardly any rain on the peloton, beyond some occasional spark. Before us, an absolutely suggestive route, which led us in the first part to go around the Tofane, touch Col Rosà and go up the Val Travenanzes to Col dei Bos, In the second part, we run in the shadow of Averau and Nuvolau, pass the Giau pass, touch Forcella Ambrizzola , the Croda da Lago refuge and the Ajal lake before the final landing. Below you can see the map of the route.
CORTINA TRAIL: RACE CHRONICLE.
The first to cross the finish line at the foot of the Cortina bell tower was Antonio Martínez Pérez: 4h17’14 »He stopped the chronometer with a chrono for history, a new record that he lowered by more than 3 ‘(4h 20’ 24 ‘ ) the previous record set by the American Zach Miller in 2018. Career in progression that of the Alicante who was in the leading group for the first hour and a half and then opened the throttle and stood out from all. Scandinavia, always very present in Lavaredo, took the second and third step of the podium here: place of honor for the Norwegian Jo Forseth Indgaard (at the end in 4h23’41 «) and bronze for the Finn Mårten Bostr öm (4h26 ‘ 31 ‘). The first Italian Marco Piccin, Treviso de San Fior, sixth in 4h51’01.
Antonio Martínez statement: “In the last four months I have trained thinking exclusively about this race. I came to a fantastic environment that I saw for the first time. After the first hour and a half of the race I forced the pace and was left alone: from then on I only thought about pushing hard, feeding myself and hydrating to widen the gap with my opponents. It was very good!”
The female race was for Italy. The late Elisa Desco was the champion. The Piedmontese of origin, Valtelinese by adoption, also shone at a high level, reducing the time recorded by the American Hillary Allen in 2018 by more than 12 minutes. Not in vain, Elisa has been several times champion of Italy as well as champion of the world of SkyMaraton 2014. This year, Elisa has reached the finish line in 5h06’57 «. Very far from her, the second and third classified, both Polish, crossed the finish line: in the order Ursula Paprocka (5h24’19 “) and Katarzyna Wilk (5h25’43”).
Elisa Desco statements: «Last year I competed in the Virtual Lavaredo Ultra Trail and I really enjoyed the route. But being here this year was of course something else, beautiful. It was not obvious to be at the start and it was not obvious to win because last week I had a sprain and the descents were for my unknown terrain: I was very careful in the final downhill sections, the last 10km I really wanted to finish ».
