Manuel Merillas has won the Zegama Aizkorri Marathon with 3 hours 42 minutes 01 seconds in the men’s race, followed by Alhousine Elazzaoui 3h42m28sec and Jontahan Albon 3h45m01s, and Daniela Oemus (Germany) with 4 hours 31 minutes winning the women’s race, followed by the athlete from New Zealand Caitlin Fielder and the Swiss Theres Leboeuf.

ZEGAMA AIZKORRI: START AT ZEGAMA 09.00 CET
At 09.00 CET, in Zegama, Spain, the start will take place for this Zegama-Aizkorri Mendi Maratoia with 510 athletes, of 23 nationalities, on the starting line, with a temperature of 10°C and a constant rain showers that could be really heavy in the summits based on which the race track has been changed.
This is how our colleagues lived the start this morning.
As seen in the images, lots of rain and as soon as the athletes arrived to the forest area, lots of mud.
After 25 minutes in the race, Rémi Bonet has taken the lead in the mens race and Blandine L’Hirondel in the women’s race.
KM 8,5 | ULTZAMA
In the first aid point, the first one to arrived had been the Swiss athlete Rémi bonet, followed by Robert Pkemoi and Jonathan Albon.

KM 13,5 | ATABARRETA
Arriving to the KM 13, Rémi Bonet and Robert Pkemoi continue leading the pack, with a second group lead by teh Polish Bart Przedwojewski. Interesting to see how fast they run, which is even faster thatn the pass time from Kilian Jornet in the 2022 edition where he broke the record.
Rémi has passed with 1.05.43 while in 2022 they passed in 1.06.10, let’s see if they can keep this speed.
IN the women race, after this 16 kms, the situation stays the same with the top 3 been the French Blandine L’Hirondel. Yao Miao and Caitlin Fielder. Very interesting to see how the Spanih Azara García is only 3 minutes behind the leaders, so lets see what happen in the comning kms.
KM 16,1 | ARATZ
Rémi Bonet continues on record time, with about 30 -40 seconds below the 2022 record. But attention to the Spanish Manuel Merillas who comes from behind like a rocket, followed also by the Spanish Daniel Osanz only 3 min behind the leader.
Changes in the women’s race, at km 16 the Chinese runner Miao Yao has taken the lead for a couple of seconds from Blandine L’Hirondel.
KM 19,6 | SANCTI SPIRITU
This is how already looks one of the most iconic places in this Zegama Marathon.
For the first time since the start, the lead have passed to Robert Pkemoi, followed by Rémi Bonet and the Polish Bart in third place.
Incredible the effort of the athletes to get some grip in the mud, having to open heir feet towards the sides, rying to get more grip, as tevery step forward make them also go half of step backwards. Mud, mud and mud: THIS IS ZEGAMA!

Impressive to see how the athletes have started the descent with incredible skills from Jonathan Albon and Manuel Merillas., with only 2 minutes between the leader, Rémi bonet and the TOP5

After the incredible downhill, changes in the leading of the men’s race with the British Jonathan Albon and the Marroccan Alhousine Elazzaoui, followed by Robert Pkemoi.
Many changes in the leading pack, with the German Daniela Oemus first, Caitlin Fielder second and the Swiss Theres Leboeuf.
KM 30 | ANDRAITZ
Manuel Merillas leads the race at the km 30, followed by the Marroccan Alhousine Elazzaoui, both of them have over taken the British Jonathan Albon who already loses 1 min 45 seconds.

Manuel Merillas wins the Zegama Aizkorri Marathon with 3 hours 42 minutes 01 seconds followed by Alhousine Elazzaoui 3h42m28sec and Jontahan Albon 3h45m01s.
In the women’s race Daniela Oemus, from Germany, has arrived the first to the finish line at Zegama after 4 hours 31 minutes followed by the athlete from New Zealand Caitlin Fielder and the Swiss Theres Leboeuf.
