SKI MOUNTAINEERING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS BOI TAULL 2023: PROGRAM & RACES PREVIEW
The biggest event of the 2022/23 calendar is finally here. The World Championships in ski mountaineering starts this evening with the opening ceremony.
Spain hosts the skimo World Championships after 19 years. The races will happen in the ski resort Boí Taüll, located in the heart of the Pyrenees. The week’s programme is intense, with five races in six days and just one rest day.
Registration indicates this will be a record-breaking World Championships, with 298 athletes starting in Boí Taüll, the most in the history of the ISMF World Championships ever. Even though 27 countries is not a new maximum, the World Championships never had five different continents before.
ISMF PRESIDENT: REGULA MEIER
“I have to admit that it is so rewarding for us at the ISMF to see large delegations from countries that do not have a long past in our sport, like China, and some other ones that have just arrived to ski mountaineering at its best, like Australia, Azerbaijan or Finland, to mention a few. We have been blessed this year with brilliant racing and superb organisation in all the events hosted so far. We know the bar will be even higher here in Boi Taull,” said Regula Meier, President of the International Ski Mountaineering Federation.
