WMTRC THAILAND 2022 LONG TRAIL: THE RACE

As you can see below, both the length and the layout require thinking well about the strategy in the race. With so much ascent/descent in the middle of the jungle, with only 25km of tracks and the rest trails through the jungle, measuring the forces will be vital.

Another added challenge is the extreme humidity and high temperature of this environment, which already today in the 8k of Uphill left some touched, they represent a huge added challenge when we talk about competing in the ultra. The support of each team in the race to each bib will be vital. Moreover, when the Marathon comes out after… and ends much earlier than the Ultra.

WMTRC THAILAND 2022 : PRIZES & POINTS

There will be almost 200 athletes in the race, with more men than women. As for the teams, the WA rules stipulate that in the team up to six athletes can be registered, however only the best four of each team will score points for their country.

In this case, the classic IAU criteria is valid and the final times of these 4 best runners gives the total per country. The team with less timing at the end will be the world champion.

Every team has support from World Athletics, which will pay each federation a fund of between $1,000 (for registering two athletes) to $5,000 if four full teams are registered. With five events for both genders, a federation can register up to 10 teams, making it generous support.

The cash prizes are also important, as they total 50,000 USD distributed equally among the four senior events as follows for the top 5 in of each sex and modality: 4.000 – 2.000 – 1.000 – 750 – 500

As usual in World Athletics, no cash prize will be paid until the results of the mandatory WADA controls at the finish line certify the winners.

ULTRA TRAIL MOUNTAIN RUNNING: THE FAVORITES.

In addition to the individual medals, team medals will also be awarded, where Spain, France and the USA are the classic dominant powers. given three key factors: The number of athletes registered thanks to the economic commitment of each federation on the one hand, and their quality.

WOMEN’S RACE

In the women’s individual we have world elite athletes… starting with the Spanish team, where we have three medalists from previous world championships in the race, such as Gemma Arenas, Azara García de los Salmones and Maite Maiora, plus  Marta Molist and Mónica Vives with aalso brilliant results. A team so powerful that it is not impossible to dream of three medals at the finish line…and even all four: three individual medals and one team medal. They were already close in Penyagolosa 2018

Now, no matter how good ours are, there are also rivals with real options for everything. The American Kaytlin Gerbin, the Hungarian Eszter Cilllag or the Swedish Ida Nilsson.

MEN’S RACE

Among the 110 registered we have many names to follow, such us the Spaniard Aritz Egea, the Italian Andreas Reiterer or the Frech Thibaut Garrivier.  There are also other athletes like Nicolas Martín, Ludovic Pommeret UTMB-TDS Winner 2022 champion , Didrick Hermansen, talents like the Slovakian Peter Frano who has already won the very tough Canfranc Marathon or the Romanian Raukl Buaci and many more.

TEAMS

WOMEN

With 10 teams disputing the medals. Perhaps this is the clearest opportunity for our country. In addition, none of them brings together the potential of the Spanish. So, gold should be the logical goal for Spain. But in ultra racing, everything can happen, sometimes all logic collapsed…

The rivals will be the usual suspects: USA; France and Italy, with Norway or Lithuania hoping to give the alternative bell.

MEN

There will be 15 men’s teams running, with France as the favourite, Spain as an alternative and the group of the USA, Norway, Romania, Denmark as rivals to watch out for. Above all, when every second in the finish counts.
