GARMIN FORERUNNER 955 SOLAR: LONG, FASTER AND BETTER. PREMIUN GPS WATCH (550-650€). Our GPS WATCH section celebrates two new Garmin Forerunner 955 and 255 releases. The GARMIN FORERUNNER 955 SOLAR arrives as a top of the range, with two prices according to the solar load: Forerunner 955 Solar 650€ and Forerunner 955 550€.
His brother GARMIN FORERUNNER 255 is looking for a quality-price balance from € 350. Lets go with the analysis by Mayayo.
GARMIN FORERUNNER 955 SOLAR (550-650€):
PREMIUN RUNNING ATND TRIATHLON GPS WATCH
As we saw this 2022 with its brothers Fenix, Tactix and even the most modest Instinct, the Forerunner family for serious athletes grows non-stop. Today this GARMIN FORERUNNER 955 has been launched as a top-of-the-range model.
The brand also launches it with prices € 550-€ 650 It is clearly focused on runners and triathletes who play a multisport gps watch with the highest performance. Logical then that this smart gps watch now adds new functions.
And is that the Garmin Forerunner 955 in addition to tuning battery performance, solar charging and touch screen. It comes with abundant novelties that in general, give it greater autonomy and a more advanced (even) control of the activity, I point out three that have caught my attention:
- Heart rate variability (HRV) status
- Predisposition function for training. Tired legs? Me, never 🙂
- Widget for the day of the race that seeks to help us better prepare the next bib

GARMIN FOREUNNER 955: HIGHLIGHTS
Designed for the runners and triathletes, it features a full-color transflective touchscreen that stays always on and is easy to read, even in direct sunlight.
With the touchscreen interface, it’s possible to quickly scroll through maps, statistics, and more. It also allows you to operate it separately through its five side buttons or combine both options at the same time
MORE AUTONOMY THROUGH THE SUN
Likewise, the new Garmin Forerunner stands out for offering state-of-the-art features such as solar charging through the Power Glass lens, which provides up to 20 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and up to 49 hours of battery life in GPS mode.
In addition, it is characterized by providing multiband GPS with gps, GLONASS and Galileo satellites, which allows superior accuracy to know how far and how fast you run, even in challenging environments.
TRAIN MORE AND BETTER
It offers the possibility of knowing every day the state of the body and, in this way, get the most out of training. It does this by taking into account sleep, recovery time, HRV status, and other additional metrics.
Specifically, hrV status makes it possible to track heart rate variability during sleep to better control recovery and overall well-being.
To this is added a new widget seen in other Garmin 2022 news, baptized as the morning report: It is a report that appears on the clock every morning.
When the watch is combined with a compatible smartphone, it indicates weather conditions and a daily training suggestion, as well as information about the night’s sleep and HRV status (heart rate variability)
And there’s more… This report can even be customized so that athletes can see only those details that interest them most.
The new integrated Running Power allows you to have a continuous measurement on your wrist of how much power you are applying on the road while running when using a Running Dynamics Pod or an HRM-Pro™ monitor. Running Power comes in to provide running power metrics similar to those offered for other sports, such as cycling and cross-country skiing.
We also find the race widget interesting with which to obtain race preparation information, including a specific performance prediction of the race day, the weather conditions that will occur and even a countdown to the day of the race.
Given the state of constant anxiety in which we live when the day of the number approaches, I think a bug is appreciated to help us have confidence in the work done training. Thus, once the race is scheduled, the suggested daily workouts will be adapted according to the race plans of the specific runner.
Similarly, it provides information about Stamina, a new functionality that reports on endurance in real time, so it is possible to monitor and track effort levels in real time during a race or a course.
It includes key performance and training tools from Firstbeat Analytics such as V02 Max, training load, training status, performance condition and much more.
If you also use a Running Dynamics Pod or HRM-Pro monitor (sold separately), you can track race dynamics such as cadence, stride length, ground contact time, and more.
The Garmin Forerunner 955 also wants to be an advanced gps watch for the triathlete. Thus, we can keep track of your cycling dynamics, both sitting and standing.
It is possible to link a Tacx® Smart training roller using ANT+ ® technology directly from the watch for the simulation of routes, automatic resistance changes and training warnings when using specific routes or trainings.
Of course, there will be no shortage of vital power data and displacement when using a compatible Garmin power meter (sold separately).
And when we throw ourselves into the water to start the party this clock will track the distance, stroke, pace, personal records and much more.
GARMIN CONNECT, AN ADDED VALUE
Despite the recent improvements in monitoring and analysis platforms such as the COROS TRAINING HUB, for me the Garmin online ecosystem is still the most complete, street.
Rightly so, I think, the brand boasts that runners and triathletes can take their training to the next level by automatically syncing indoor and outdoor workouts from Garmin Connect, the Tacx training app, and other third-party platforms.
In addition, it is compatible with Garmin Coach, from where it is possible to have free 5K, 10K and half marathon training, which are adapted according to the objectives and performance of the runner.
Forerunner 955 Solar can be customized using clock displays, data fields and applications, plus widgets via the Connect IQ store
GARMIN CARTOGRAPHY: ALWAYS A PLUS
Whether running through city streets or cycling on densely covered trails, Forerunner 955 Solar provides the athlete with integrated full-color topographic maps to stay on track and travel the distance.
Follow a route or route with turn-by-turn directions and know in advance when the next junction is approaching, as well as plan and download routes with the tour builder in Garmin Connect, which uses popular Trendline routes to offer the best local tours or create others on platforms like Strava and Komoot that sync perfectly with the clock.
PACE PRO AND CLIMB PRO
To all this, PacePro is added, a tool that provides a guide to the pace of the race taking into account the user’s time objective and ClimbPro, which allows to know information in real time the current and future climbs.
It includes the slope, distance and unevenness in the unloaded routes and correct the pace accordingly. Similarly, it is possible to enter a distance to run or ride a bicycle directly on the watch and instantly receive suggested routes to return to the starting point.
MORE SMART FEATURES: BODY BATTERY, WOMAN, PRESS OX4…
Designed to be worn forever, Forerunner 955 Solar includes advanced health and wellness features. Thus, it integrates Pulse OX44, which is based on the monitoring of blood oxygen saturation levels and provides a clearer picture of sleep and acclimatization to altitude.
Meanwhile, the Body Battery energy tracking shows the current energy levels that can help the athlete find the best time for activity and rest.
In addition, women’s health features, including menstrual cycle and pregnancy tracking, allow women to record symptoms and receive advice and information about exercise and nutrition.
We can pay through Garmin Pay and receive notifications of calls, text messages, social media updates and alerts, received on a compatible smartphone.
To all this, its security and tracking functions are added, which provide peace of mind while training outdoors by being able to send the location in real time to previously selected contacts or send a message automatically if the watch detects an incident.
To me, I confess, I don’t like running with music at all. But for many colleagues it is a way to do it more at ease, for relaxation or motivation. Although it decreases the battery, beware, this Garmin also offers integrated music like almost all of the brand.
You can download up to 2000 songs from Spotify®, Amazon Music and Deezer playlists, although beware, a Premium subscription may be required.
