ZEGAMA AIZKORRI 2022 (29MAY): PROGRAM, ROUTE AND FAVOURITES.Our MOUNTAIN RACING CALENDAR 2022 celebrates its return, two years later as the inaugural race of the 2022 Golden Trail World Series.
It will be held on MAY 29 and will feature Kilian Jornet, Maude Mathys, Nienke Brinkman, Oriol Cardona and Manuel Merillas, among others. In addition, it will form the Golden Trail National together with Louzantrail, Olla de Núria and Mitja Pirineu.

Two years later the iconic image will be repeated: that we have remembered above: That with the runners wrapped up, feverish and carried on wings on the ascent of Santo Spiritu. An image that is already part of the collective memory of the corremontes.
The most mediatic mountain marathon in Spain, the Zegama-Aizkorri, returns this 2022 with all the honors: being the inaugural event of the Golden Trail World Series and celebrating its 21st edition, which will not lack the best in the world.
But not only will the Mendi Maratoia be held, but as in past editions there will be a Vertical Kilometer that will start at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, with a 3000 meters course joining Arriaundi with Iraule.
After the KM on Friday, the XXI. ZEGAMA-AIZKORRRI MENDI MARATOIA will be held on May 29, 2022 in the town of Zegama (Gipuzkoa) with departure at 9:00 am. With a route of 42,195 Km, with an accumulated elevation gained of 5,472 m

THE RETURN OF THE KING: KILIAN JORNET
This is the case of Kilian Jornet, who will attend the event as the eternal defender of the title. His victories includes neither more nor less than nine txapelas. He thus arrives on the hunt for his tenth victory in eleven participations, never seen.
As an extra incentive, Jornet can have between eyebrows and eyebrows to beat the record of the test that at the moment is still in the hands of Stain Angermund-Vik (3:45:08). He will not have it easy, with rivals such as Remi Bonnet, Puppi, Jonathan Albon, Oriol Cardona and Manuel Merillas, Aritz Egea who comes from winning last weekend in the first edition of the Domusa Teknik.

It remains to be seen if the 2017 records of Stian Angermund (3h45′) and Maite Maiora (4h34′) will be broken when the terrain is dry (for the moment) and also with which shoes the first swords come out, this being one of the first editions where most brands have assisted plates in their multiple competition models such as the Hoka Tecton X (perhaps not so technical for the Zegama terrain) the Salomon Pulsar Pro, or some other.
