Who is CIMALP? CIMALP is a mountain French brand created in 1964 by a mountaineer who has distinguished himself by trying to develop technical and reliable products, but at affordable prices. Established at the foot of the Alps between Vercors and Monts d’Ardéche, CIMALP designs material for all mountain sports: skiing, hiking, mountaineering and mainly Mountain Running, that in a few years become the star of the company within the French market. They are technical products at a contained price and only available online.

This softshell pants are comfortable, versatile and resistant thanks to their elastic and protective inserts in the lower area of the leg. Perfect in any weather condition and for any activity, from hiking to skiing or mountaineering. With rear breastplate with straps, Recco safety beacon, ventilation zippers and integrated gaiters.

The new PITON 2H is made of extremely breathable and durable Softshell fabric, also windproof and waterproof.

CIMALP PITON 2H: HIGHLIGHTS

RECCO TECHNOLOGY

The RECCO rescue beacon can be located by rescuers equipped with RECCO detectors in case of accident, avalanche or if you get lost in any activity in the outdoors although RECCO technology does not replace avalanche victim detectors.

Obviously, this RECCO technology in this PITON make them even more attractive, because they provide a plus of security to almost any winter activity in the mountains, be it cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, classic mountaineering, snowshoes, etc …

KEVLAR REINFORCEMENTS & MULTI-USE

In the lower part of the leg, apart from the long zipper that allows you to put on your boots with great comfort, there are klevar reinforcements that prevent wear or possible tears when using crampons.

Another interesting point to highlight is the versatility of these pants, since the leg diameter allows the use of ski boots, as well as the adjustment to “smaller” boots such as mountaineering through brackets in the bottom of the pants.

IMPERMEABILITY AND BREATHABILITY

If something stands out these PITON is its breathability and impermeability. The Cimashell fabric offers apart from the aforementioned 10,000Mmm/10,000 mg/m2/24h a great softness to the touch and are quite warm on cold days.

CIMALP PITON 2H: CONCLUSIONS

Great products in this mountain range of products from the French of Cimalp. Tough and solid pants, not very heavy and with a versatility that can make it the pants for all this (and many other) winter.

First of all I would highlight the versatility, because it is not a trouser for a single/specific use, but thanks to different details, such as the RECCO beacon, the suspenders, the side zippers in addition to the Kevlar reinforcements and the waterproofing allow to be used both in long days of alpine skiing and in mountaineering activities, although, in some alpinism activities we would miss the reinforcement also in the knees.

Likewise, the warm and soft to the touch fabric with the skin, make those cold days less cold and the pattern allows the use of a first layer underneath, without feeling “stuffed”.

We will continue with the thorough test of these pants and their ideal companion, the VINSON 5H jacket, in the Alps and we will tell you about it here at trailrunningspain.com
