ALTRA LONE PEAK 5.0 SE REVIEW: Special edition 10th anniversary. Our TRAIL SHOES section brings us today the launch of the ALTRA LONE PEAK 5 SE. Altra launches a special edition of this iconic shoe recalling the launch of its first version.
To celebrate the brand’s tenth anniversary, Altra presents a special edition of the shoe that reached the top of the Wasatch mountain range, with details, colors and materials on top inspired by the iconic original hiking shoes.

ALTRA LONE PEAK 5.0 SE: A SPECIAL EDITION FOR SPECIAL EXPERTISE
The Altra Lone Peak is perhaps the brand’s most iconic shoe. They were born the day Golden Harper (co-founder of the brand along with Brian Beckstead) came up with the enough warm-up of a pair of shoes to be able to remove their heels and balance them. What was the result?, because for the first time in his life Golden wore running shoes that he felt did not bother him when running.
A decade ago, lone peaks reached the top of the Wasatch range and Altra Running was introduced to the world. In this special version, this legend returns with details, colors and materials on the top inspired by the iconic original hiking shoes. Like all Lone Peak 5 models, the Anniversary model features our Altra EGO midsole™ foam and maxTrac™ high-grip sole.
ALTRA LONE PEAK 5.0 SE: UPPER
Everyone knows the design of the Altra deck, a cover designed so that our foot can be moved away. A wide shape in the area of fingers that will provide us with greater comfort as the kilometers pass. It is well known that many runners prefer to have that area more sheltered, but the truth is that the FootShape Toe Box of Altra, personally I think it is a success, especially for wide foot runners as is my case.
On this occasion, the brand for the special edition has chosen details and colors that take us to a decade ago where these shoes were presented to the world. Maybe they are not the most beautiful colors, or the most beautiful design, but it is true that they give a somewhat retro design to the shoe that I personally do not dislike.
We can also appreciate the GaiterTrap, available to allow the hooking of leggings quickly and easily.

In the sole we find the usual Maxtrac, a sole that combines good grip, good traction and enough durability. We will have to see if it maintains the benefits of the Lone Peak 4.0, or on the contrary has improved in performance. Remember that it was not a sole for wet terrain. We will have to see how we develop with them through somewhat more technical terrains with their 4mm studs.
In addition, we can observe that we maintain the Trailclaw (the claws of Altra), which give a spectacular visual point to the sole and that with cleats strategically placed under the metatarsus, helps us to get more traction on that area.
ALTRA LONE PEAK 5.0 SE: CONCLUSIONS
An interesting shoe, which for runners like me, can come from pearls, now that many shoes are narrowing the area of the toe. Altra offers us this relaxation in that area that in some cases may give some instability depending on who puts them on. I personally like the feeling of wearing the loosest foot in the area of instep and fingers, especially as the kilometers go by. It is true that the heel still does not hold very firm, so we will have to see in what type of terrain we can run with them without risk of twists or trips.
