BARCELONA MARATHON 2021, 7th November: registrations open! Our MARATHON section celebrates the return of one of the five great Spaniards. The Zurich Marató Barcelona opened registrations yesterday for the 2021 edition, which will take place on November 7. The organization presents the central axes of this edition to make it the best in history.

The Zurich Marató Barcelona 2021 faces the last 5 months prior to its celebration with optimism and desire to recover the sporting and festive character that characterizes it. For this, registrations have been opened for those runners who want to participate on November 7. We start with the review of the virtual route of the race, as experienced in the last edition in 2019.

March 14th last year everything stopped. The Zurich Marató Barcelona had to be postponed because of Covid and months of training and thousands of dreams were fading. At that time he started another very different race: the one that would test the capacity of struggle, resilience and sacrifice of the human being.

More than a year later the countdown begins to celebrate one of the most special editions in history. The Zurich Marató Barcelona returns with more strength, desire and enthusiasm than ever on November 7. And it does so with numerous novelties that will be noticed from the moment the participant makes his registration.

To begin with, a new website and a new image inspired by the emblematic grids of Pla Cerdà, great protagonists of the graphic language of the race, which, now more than ever, will be unified with the marathon.

The Zurich Marató Barcelona presents an exclusive typography that aims to capture the character of a race that has, in its 100% urban route and that crosses the main tourist attractions of the city, one of the strong points of the race. In this way, we wanted to give priority to Barcelona as the main source of inspiration.

MARATON BARCELONA 2021: WHAT IS NEW?

The organization has worked especially on three basic axes: attention to the corridor, staging and sustainable measures. The participants have been the main pillar axis for the organization, which has always tried to look after their interests so that they live, in Barcelona, a magical experience that they will remember all their lives. The services to the runners, from the collection of the bib at the Expo Sports, the atmosphere prior to the start, the numerous refreshments every 2.5km from km 5 or the animations along the route, are essential factors.

Likewise, the next edition will have a new staging that aims to transfer to the participants all the epic of a race of the marathon level. The point of departure and arrival of the test, on Avenida Mª Cristina, will have innovative novelties that, without any doubt, will put, even more, the emotions of the participants to the surface, combining the practical immediacy of the new technologies with the particular experiences of each participant.

One of the priority objectives of the Zurich Marató Barcelona is to minimize the impact that the test may leave on the environment. With the main purpose of turning the great sports festival into an act of respect for the city, its citizens and the environment, concrete measures will be carried out for a sustainable test. Measures such as the participants’ T-shirts, made of 100% recycled polyester, the disappearance of plastics in the refreshments, the numerous recycling containers that will be distributed in key points of the route, the use of electric cars to support the test or the calculation and commitment of the carbon footprint, are the best proof.

MARATHON BARCELONA 2021: COVID MEASURES

The organization will ensure the safety of the runners by taking all necessary measures to protect the safety of the participants. The positive evolution of the vaccination campaign and the decrease in the incidence of the coronavirus in society foreshadow that the Zurich Marató Barcelona will once again become one of the most multitudinous and festive sporting events in the city of Barcelona. In any case, the race will be adapted to the measures established by the health situation at that time.

The Zurich Marató Barcelona 2021 looks forward to the arrival of the runners next November. The objective is clear: to make live again a magical experience in the participants through the 42km of its route. A circuit with its own character and identity fruit of the legacy of a city admired throughout the world for its diversity, gastronomy and cosmopolitan culture. An opportunity to run through one of the most beautiful cities on the planet.
