MILANO-CORTINA 2026 IS DECIDED 20-21JUL
Olympic Ski Mountaineering, the dream of the ISMF getting closer and closer. Founded in 2007, the Ismf International Ski Mountaineering Federation is the world’s governing body for ski mountaineering competitions. Since 2016, the organization is officially recognized by the IOC International Olympic Committee.
Its main objectives are the promotion, regulation and development of the sport of mountain skiing around the world. Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, the ISMF is made up of 38 national mountaineering or ski sports federations in Europe, Asia and the Americas. The ISMF organizes world cup and world championships events in ski mountaineering.
For the first time, ski mountaineering has been a medalist sport at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland. Ismf’s ambition is to become an Olympic sport for the 2026 Winter Games in Milan-Cortina, Italy. A fight that already reaches its final stretch, pending the final vote on 20-21JUL in Tokyo.
ISMF, PROUD OF OLYMPIC AMBITION
Thomas Kähr, the president of the ISMF says: “The entire mountain skiing community can be proud to be close to realizing its Olympic ambition. Being an Olympian will form the basis of the beneficial development of our great sport, and our athletes will bring their unique values to the Olympic community. One thing is already clear: we will do our best to be a proud and respected member of the Olympic family. But first, let’s hope IOC members accept the Executive Board’s proposal.”
The ISMF expresses its sincere thanks and appreciation to the many helping hands in the Milano-Cortina Organizing Committee, as well as to the bodies and colleagues in various roles in the International Olympic Committee, the Italian National Olympic Committee and the FISI, Italian Winter Sports Federation.
This milestone would not have been achieved without the support and dedicated contributions of ISMF staff and delegates. Sincere thanks should therefore be expressed to all of them for their precious teamwork.
