LIVIGNO SKYMARATHON 2021: THE RACE.
On the starting line of the two races more than 500 athletes from 10 different nations. While the big names of the World Cup races on the edge of the sky fought in the very technical 34 km of the Livigno Skymarathon (approximately 2600 md +), another 150 runners experienced a Saturday of great sport running the 18 km of the Sky Trail (1000 md +).
Certainly without uncertainty. Switzerland’s Christian Mathys and Romanian Denisa Dragomir put on a show by imposing severe gaps on their opponents on the selective route of the second stage of the 2021 Skyrunning World Series. Despite the heavy snowfall, fans coordinated by alpine guide Adriano Greco and home champion Marco De Gasperi manage to host an epic sixth edition that largely followed the one already proposed in 2019.

Champions Hannes Perkmann and Ivana Iozzia. In the 18km (1000m D+), which followed the first part of the long race, the South Tyrol team Scarpa/Karpos immediately imposed the law of the strongest taking a good margin over the direct rivals. At least in the first part of the climb, the challenge in pink was more contested with a real head-to-head between Ivana Iozzia of Como and Finland’s Susanna Saapunki.
With the passage of the kilometers, Perkmann increased his advantage, while the road driver Calcestruzzi Corradini ensured success. Ranking in hand Perkmann won in 1h27’19”.” On the podium with him also the Venetian Luca Cagnati 2nd in 1h32’54” and the Portuguese Andre Rodrigues 3rd in 1h34’24”. Germany’s Stefan Knopf fourth and Lecco’s Eros Radaelli fifth also did well.
First place for Iozzia in 1h50’28 “.. The second was Susanna Saapunki in 1h52’38”, while the third was the young Gaia Bertolini in 1h54’00”.
