SALOMON SLAB SENSE PRO 10: ULTRATRAIL BACKPACK, anaylsis by Mayayo. Our TRAILRUNNING GEAR section today introduces the SALOMON SLAB SENSE PRO 10 SET. New volume for the range of ultra races backpacks of the brand, which also brings interesting technical innovations, in return, with a price something higher than its older sisters. Let’s get to know your details.

SALOMON SLAB SENSE PRO 10: ULTRATRAIL BACKPACK, ANALYSIS BY MAYAYO.
The Salomon Slab Sense Ultra backpack range has been in Salomon’s catalogue for many years. For years the French brand has been betting on a range of 2, 5 and 8 liters, combining different solutions depending on what we needed to carry. Now, in 2020-21 we finally see novelties like this ONE from PRO 10L that provides a more volume alternative.
Thus, before, the older sister of the range was the Salomon Slab Sense Ultra 8 Set, which, while weighing the same as the 5 set, offered greater storage capacity. In this way, it was more recommended for ultra-distance races or in winter races that were its needed to wear more winter clothes. As for the little sister, the Salomon Slab Sense 2 Set, is much lighter, it is just a vest for carrying hydration, food and a windbreaker.
The entrance of the SALOMON SENSE PRO 10 SET into the family expands the fan significantly. The brand itself officially presents it as: We know that every second counts in ultra-distance and that comfort and practicality make all the difference. That’s why the minimalist SENSE PRO 10 is ultra-comfortable, with no friction points and a really precise fit. With instant access to your trail basics, you can move faster and faster.
Let’s go over the data sheet first and then with the details.

SALOMON SENSE PRO 10 SET: DIFFERENTIAL POINTS.
SENSIFIT SET: A classic Salmon that seeks to combine stability/freedom of movement Its design uses stretch and breathable fabrics that conform to the body, as well as slight adjustments to enhance fit and stability. The backpack does not bounce, but allows you to breathe comfortably. In my case, it’s been a fixed on my ultras since 2015. The only drawback I see is its limited durability, because from the second season of use tends to give way somewhere.
SALOMON SOFTFLASK HYDRATION: The Salomon Speed soft drum is quick and easy to fill, drink and clean. He is the one with a large plug, with a sprocket, which opens and closes much better than his previous brothers. Upstairs I get to ice cubes and that speeds up the filling, as well as making it easier to clean. The valve allows a high flow rate without dripping. The molded top and bottom of the drum make it easier for me to put it in my pocket. My favorite soft drum, next to the very good also that makes Camelbak, more crushed to go more glued to the body.
COMPATIBLE WITH CARCAJ FOR POLES: Custom Quiver. A brand accessory that offers quick access and stable cane transport. Ready to connect. I’m not really going. But other test partners like @cercedilaltrail have used it to full satisfaction. A personal bet, of course, but for those who fit a whole point in favor.
QUICKLINK CLOSE AND SETTING: This innovative sternum strap seeks that we can quickly adjust and connect the backpack, even on the go. In addition, the elastic strap allows you to breathe easily during intense activities. We will see how it behaves in our thorough tests…
SAFETY, ALWAYS: The safety whistle and reflective ones are classics that are never missing
SALOMON SENSE PRO 10: POCKETS THAT NEVER END.
I’ve left this as a separate chapter, because the list is endless. A main, classic and functional back compartment. At the same time, you can access it on both sides. The two expandable front pockets under the drum, with stretch fabric, make a difference to me. Very comfortable and always at hand, this front pocket allows me to quickly access the objects I need in a race. In fact, I tend to abuse him, as you can see in the picture.
Also, of course, we have the front pockets for drums with loops, which limit the bounce. We also have 1 elastic compartment with zippered opening upstairs. I also like the lower back pocket with 2 side accesses, there usually put/take out my jacket, on the go. To complete, we have 2 zippered elastic front pockets, for things I DON’t want to risk falling or losing.
SALOMON SENSE PRO 10 SET: CONCLUSION.
A logical size that expands the range and brings some novelties to try slowly. As usual, Salomon proves time and time again that he leads the market for two reasons. The first one innovates a lot and continuously, not always getting the first one right. The second: He continues to develop his materials, year after year. And this SALOMON SENSE PRO 10 SET is a great example. Paint, paint very well, now it’s time to start the test thoroughly to first confirm if the new advances justify the price increase. And also… if we finally have a solid backpack to join us for three or more seasons. It would be the bomb, wouldn’t it?
