ODLO MILLENNIUM YAKWARM RUNNING TIGHTS: YAKWOOL REVIEW.

ODLO MILLENNIUM YAKWARM TIGHTS: WINTER RUNNING TIGHTS. Our TRAIL RUNNING GEAR section presents you today a lightweight and warm tights for these cold winter days.

It will go well for all kinds of outings, whether in the city or the mountain. The Swiss brand is a guarantee, since 1947, of good patronage, weaving and finishing in sportswear. We go with the technical analysis and test done from the Basque Country by our #patroncarrerasdemontana Josu López de Ipiña.

ODLO, A REFERENT ON SPORTS CLOTHING SINCE 1947.

Although not well known in some countries yet, the originated Norwegian brand is a reference in high-end sportswear throughout Scandinavia, since it was born in Norway back in 1947. The creator, Odd Roar Lofterød, gave the brand his own name when in 1947 he began to make women’s underwear, but soon, he came up with a better idea.

His son, Odd Roar Jr., was training on the Norwegian junior speed skating team. To prevent his child from freezing cold during the training sessions, Odd Roar designed a new training suit. Soon after, his teammates and other high-level athletes wanted to try it too!

In 1963, he developed an elastic and functional ski suit for cross-country skiers and speed skaters, made out of Helanca synthetic fiber. The Norwegian Olympic Team wore the revolutionary new costume at the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics; and at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics there were already 22 teams in competition equipped by Odlo.

The brand moved to Switzerland in 1987, starting there, it also opened to all alpine sports: from skiing to mountaineering, and more. Today we have high-quality Odlo clothing for cross-country skiing, cycling, running, downhill skiing and almost any sport where thermal protection is important. So let’s go with this latest third-layer, focused on running warm under the cold and wind, but when it doesn’t rain.

ODLO RUNNING MILLENNIUM YAKWARM TIGHTS: ANALYSIS.

The first thing that stands out in the Odlo Millennium Yakwarm meshes is its softness, thickness and the quality of its finishes. The analysis/test I have made in its entirety by the mountains of Gipuzkoa (Basque Countriy), with a size L and that I think suitable for people who like in my case, ronde the 1.83m and has a weight of 76kg. In this size the mesh adjusts to the body, compressing gently the legs, so, if you like to go more tight it would be a size M.

In the back of the pants we have a very useful pocket in my workouts. It has more than enough capacity to carry documentation and some food. It also has an adjustable waist that helps to adapt it to our taste.
Along the almost 200km that I have made, the fabric of the mesh (elastane, Yak wool and polyester) has shown resistance, warmth and that doesn’t yield with the passage of kilometers, preventing it from moving while running and leaving us chafing. Another aspect to highlight from the clothing and fabric of the Millennium Yakwarm is how well it adapts to us, allowing freedom of movement and that you don’t even notice that you wear it. Finally, the mesh fabric is thick and makes its weight of 216 gr in size L.

ODLO RUNNING MILLENNIUM YAKWARM TIGHTS: TESTS FROM 0°C TO 15 ºC.

During the test I have been able to use it in all kinds of situations, from rainy days to warm, and with temperatures ranging from 0°C to 15 ºC. Both on cold days and warm Odlo’s warm and Yakwarm technologies have proven to be very effective. These make the mesh very well heat and have good breathability, evacuating sweat very quickly, which helps our legs stay dry and doesn’t cool down. These qualities have made it my favorite mesh to train this winter.

  • Strengths: Breathability; High comfort in temperatures between 0 and 15ºC; Ergonomics; Soft adjustment; Durability and resistance; Freedom of movement.
  • Possible improvements: Option of hooking sticks in the rear.

CONCLUSION

The Millennium Yakwarm tights offers high breathability, ergonomics, resistance and thermal comfort. It is a tight that gathers all the experience of a brand like Odlo, used to design and manufacture garments for countries where they spend several months with temperatures below zero. A type of mesh highly recommended to include in our wardrobe if you are one of those for whom there is not such a thing as bad weather but wrong clothing.
