CANFRANC CANFRANC 2021 OPENS REGISTRATIONS: ARAGONESE PYRENEES MOUNTAIN RACES RETURN 11-12SEP
CANFRANC CANFRANC 2021 WILL ARRIVE ON 11-12SEP. Its 2020 edition was the highest sporting event in the Pyrenees. For many, perhaps the best mountain race of the year in Spain. Rain of records with golds for Thibaut Baronian and Oihana Kortazar in Marathon; Jordi Gamito and Silvia Trigueros in 75km; Antonio Martínez and Servant Nadege in 16km, plus Marcos Ramos and Jaione Sasieta on the Ultra100k.
Our mountain races calendar 2021 brings you today the CANFRANC CANFRANC on 11th-12th SEP. The organization will maintain four races: The 100km, the Ultra 75k, Marathon and 16km. We start with this year’s news, presented by its director Alex Varela. (Only in Spanish)
CANFRANC CANFRANC 2021 WILL ARRIVE ON 11-12SEP
CANFRANC-CANFRANC 2021 will be the 15th edition of this classic of the Aragonese Pyrenees.
A constantly growing race. In 2019 it surpassed its previous popular records, reaching almost 900 bibs. from the just 150 runners who took started just 5 years before. In 2020 it voluntarily cut backs due Covid19 but continued to grow in sports with a large number of world runners and new records for most of its modalities.
At sport elite level, the race will collect big names from the trail like Salvador Calvo, Manuel Merillas, Jokin Lizeaga, Pablo Villalobos, Maxime Cazajous, Javier Dominguez-Ledo, Thibaut Baronian, Oihana Kortazar, Silvia Trigueros, Jordi Gamito….and of course the three-time world champion Luis Alberto Hernando, based in Jaca, who precisely in Canfranc started his great career in the elite.

ULTRA CANFRANC-CANFRANC (100K/D+8,848M) THE LONGEST 100KM IN THE WORLD.
The beautiful Canfranc International Station hosts the start and finish line of the world’s only mountain race that in 100k challenges us to go up and down an Everest. And do so, by the delicate alpine ridges that link the ski resorts of Astún, Formigal and Candanchu, crowning up to ten Pyrenean peaks. like the Anayets, Collarada, La Moleta or Pala. A capital challenge, with a quota limited to only 200 bibs in 2020, reserved for experts in large ultra Trail alpines for whom the organization demands prior mountain history to those who aspire to contest it.

The Canfranc-Canfranc is a race of great technical demand in most of its route, with more than 70% above 2,000 meters of altitude. It also has those 8,848 meters of positive elevation spread over a beautiful 100-kilometer route through the Ip Valley with its Peña Collarada, Izas Valley and Roya Canal, the Astun Valley and the Aspe Massif. Departure will take midnight on Friday, from the iconic canfranc International Station bridge and runners will have 36 hours to complete the demanding route.

Among canfranc’s races also highlight its mountain marathon in a special way. The Canfranc-Canfranc Marathon brings differential hardness and beauty that for years have attracted the best national talent to this race. The list accumulates references in the world elite such as Salvador Calvo, Javier Domínguez-Ledo, Luis Alberto Hernando, Manuel Merillas, Jokin Lizeaga, Pablo Villalobos or Samuel Dávila. In 2020 the Marathon was a true protagonist, with a historical podium formed by Thibaut Baronian, Samuel Dávila and Miguel Heras in the masculine, while among the women stood out Oihana Kortazar, María Ordoñez and Eva Mesado.
MORE MOUNTAIN IN CANFRANC-CANFRANC 2021 (75K-16K) In addition to the queen race of 100km and its classic Marathon, where it all began, the festive weekend is completed with two more races, each with its own personality. Thus, the Ultra 75k (75K/D+6,500m.) which this year fits 70km, as well as the Canfranc 16K (16K/D+1,559 m.) In this way, a whole range is opened to live the landscapes of the Aragonese Pyrenees according to the experience and objectives of each person.
