TRANSVULCANIA 2020: THE TRANSVULCANIA WEEK MOVES OUT TO THE WEEK OF 09/26 TO 10/03

Most of the races for this spring have been to postponed or cancelled due the COVID-19 outbreak. It is the responsibility of each organizer to decide either postpone or cancel depending on their needs, We have seen races like Zegama, or Tenerife Blue Trail canceling to 2021, or others like Transvulcania postponing to autumn, and we thing that both possibilities have their own reasons.

Transvulcania team has sent a report with their decision and why they have decided to postpone instead of cancelling, Let’s go for their exact words here below.

Making this decision has not been easy, nor has fitting the date into a calendar full of tests in the last quarter of the year. The decision of this new date has been made in complete coordination with the International Skyrunning Federation and the Skyrunner World Series, a calendar within which is the Ultramarathon modality, and in turn also with the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, under the umbrella of which There is the Marathon modality that will continue within the RFEA Trail / Mountain Running Series circuit and is awaiting confirmation for the celebration of the Spanish Trail Championship on the new date. In addition, we have also been in coordination for making this decision with all the Town Halls of the island, as well as the Safety and Emergency team of the test.

For us as an organization, considering canceling the test would have been the easy decision, but now more than ever we have wanted to be as close as possible to the reality of the island. We know that Transvulcania is one of the projects with the greatest economic impact on La Palma and that this edition will also be a great economic boost for local companies and SMEs, which will be in full recovery after COVID-19 and will need all possible help. That is why we want Transvulcania to serve as a support point to guarantee a speedy recovery.

Thanks to local companies, for more than 11 years Transvulcania has managed to grow, being aware that this decision will mean having a different test, we are ready to continue with its celebration on another date, being fully aware of the positive impact it would have for La Palma.

For this reason, we appeal to all those registered to include, within their sports calendar, the new date proposed for this year, making available, if the new date is not in their interest, both the transfer of the number to the edition of 2021, to be held from May 3 to 9, 2021, or the refund of 100% of the amount of your registration.

As a team we are prepared to manage each case personally as soon as possible, making all the necessary mechanisms available to those enrolled to facilitate and speed up the change process.
After this postponement, the new dates for the celebration of Transvulcania 2020, and its parallel activities, are as follows:

  • Runner Fair: From Tuesday, September 29 to Friday, October 2, 2020
  • Transvulcania Vertical Kilometer: Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.
  • Transvulcania Marathon (Trail/Mountain Running Series – RFEA): Friday, October 2, 2020, at 10:00 a.m.
  • Transvulcania Half Marathon: Friday, October 2, 2020, at 12:00 noon
  • Transvulcania Kids-Junior: Friday, October 2, 2020, at 05:00 p.m.
  • Transvulcania Ultramarathon (Skyrunner World Series): Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 06:00 a.m.

We have just sent all the riders enrolled in Transvulcania 2020 the detailed procedure and the deadlines they have to follow to make the changes to their registration. Also, we take this opportunity to thank all the Transvulcaners for the support received during the last days.

We have opened for all purposes a new project, where we are analyzing each area taking into account the new reality, we are going to provide Transvulcania with new health security measures and we guarantee as a team that we will put all the resources and means necessary so that we can count with the latest in both regulations and regulations, in terms of sustainability and health security.

Finally, from the Organization we have also contacted both our official travel agency, hotel establishments as well as several airlines and shipping companies in order to propose that, given the delicate situation, they make all the facilities available to those registered that wish to change their ticket or accommodation to the new date set for the event.

Given this peculiar situation, from the Transvulcania Organization we are already working to create one of the best possible Transvulcania that helps to recover the enthusiasm and passion for the mountains for runners, media, suppliers, sponsors and the general public.

Meanwhile, we encourage all participants to continue to follow the recommendations of the authorities. Together, we will overcome this virus as soon as possible. The mountains are getting closer!
