SKIMO WORLD CUP 2017 ERZINCAN: INVIDUAL

.

.
With 37 athletes on the run, and eight nations represented – including China and Iran – competitors had to face a technical track that challenged the Loc – local organizer Commette all the week long. The snow was moved a lot by the never stopping wind. For this reason it was difficult to create the perfect conditions to set the race 100% off piste. Nevertheless the “Indi” track, with 1700 D+ was all a matter of seven challenging ascents and descents, having the key parts mostly in the two central ascents: A4 with 550 D+ and A5 with 330 D+ were the dice were already cast for most of the competitors.

.

By that time Italy had already set the pace and was going for the leadership with what turned out to be a duel between Matteo Eydallin, who prevailed, and Michele Boscacci who lost the victory at the fotofinish, in a breathtaking final sprint. “Eydallin and I fought together till the end – explains the Italian Boscacci – : he overcame me in the very last bend and the arrival was very emotional”, adds Boscacci who managed to keep William Bon Mardion, from France, in third position. That was a kind of derby Italy – France which was worth for Bon Mardion another big result in the season after Cambre D’Aze.

Matteo Eydallin (ITA): ”I am super happy for this result. I Like this snow very much because it is like the spring one we get in the Alps and also you ride with daylight thanks to the timezone. I got big energy from this and it was easier to recover from a flue I had last week. It was an hard battle with Boscacci and we are happy also as a team. Some big friends are missing here in Turkey, but having already been third behind them in the past races, I gain a lot of confidence for the next champs”.
Women´s race: Laeitia Rous wins again. Sunshine and clear sky framed another derby in the ladies race: their track was almost the same with 1400D + and as much emotions as the male colleagues. Again the French team was impressing: Laetitia Roux seemed to like very much this high plateau style environment with few trees and a lot of open terrain to cover. She started early with her typical “solo” run and got to the finish well in advance on team mate Axelle Mollaret who is again second like in Andorra and Cambre D’Aze.
First podium of the season in an Individual for Claudia Galicia Cotrina, Spain, who has put down a solid performance mostly keeping the third position for the whole run.

Laetitia Roux (FRA): “It is a super day because I was eagerly waiting to run in Turkey, off the unusual tracks. The environment is grand: not high peaks but great slopes inviting you to run down, and that is what I did. Happy with my skiing and my confidence“

After the recent discussion with Kilian Jornet, Damiano Lenzi and Matteo Eydallin at Cambre d´aze, the ISMF skimo took on this opportunity at Turkey to vindicate their efforts for the global development of the sport. . “This is a proof that we are working in the right direction – said Armando Mariotta and Marco Mosso, ISMF president and Vp marketing and communications – : our commitment is to make the ISMF world Cup traveling and discovering new countries which are interested in the simo movement”.
