RESULTS FOR 2023 IAU 50 KM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. Our ATHLETICS section bring us the results for 2023 IAU 50km World Championships in Hyderabad (India).
Today Spain surpassed itself with gold for Chakib Lachgar, silver for Álex Jiménez ‘El Balilla’ and bronze for Jesús Ángel Olmos. The men’s team won the world gold, while the women’s team was on the verge of scoring.

RESULTS FOR 2023 IAU 50 KM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The IAU 50 km World Cup was an event that began at 7:00 local time in India. The athletes completed 10 laps on a 5 kilometer circuit around the University of Hyderabad.
The Spanish team arrived with Houssame Benabbou and Alberto Puyuelo leading the group of 10 Spanish athletes (6 men and 4 women), to Hyderabad.

CHAKIB LACHGAR 50K WORLD CHAMPION
Chakib Lachgar debuted with the national team in a big way, by proclaiming himself world distance champion, thus succeeding Iraitz Arrospide from San Sebastian, winner in Brasov 2019. Guipuzcoan Lachgar won decisively with a record of 2:48:20 in his debut in the 50 km, achieving the second Spanish mark in history, just over 30 seconds behind Arrospide’s own record. Runner-up was Álex Jiménez ‘El Balilla’, who was also competing for the first time in ultra-distance, and who crossed the finish line in a time of 2:49:30, the fourth best Spanish time ever. The triplet was completed by Jesús Ángel Olmos, the national 50 km champion, who came third with 2:50:12, a personal record and fifth Spanish record in history.
WORLD WORLD 50K ULTRA DISTANCE: SPAIN WORLD CHAMPION
Between the three of them, of course, they lifted Spain to the world team title with a joint time of 8:28:02, 20 minutes faster than India, ranked second, and 23 minutes ahead of Great Britain, bronze.

CARLA MOLINARO (GBR) WORLD CHAMPION
In the women’s competition, the new IAU women’s 50 km champion is Carla Molinaro (GBR) with a finishing time of 3:18:23. Second place goes to Andrea Pomaranski (USA) with 2:19:07 and third place goes to Sarah Webster (GBR) with 3:20:07. This was a great victory for Great Britain as they signed gold and bronze individually.

In the Team competition Great Britain won gold medal. USA and Croatia were second and third at women competition.
