THE GOLDEN TRAIL SERIES RETURNS TO ITALY

“The Couloir of Hell” celebrates its 25th anniversary!

The DoloMyths Run will celebrate its 25th anniversary on 15th July 2023. With its sumptuous scenery and technical race course – without doubt the most technical terrain in the Series – makes it one of the athletes’ most favourite races. The famous “Couloir of Hell”, one of the craziest and toughest climbs in the Golden Trail World Series, is however feared by everyone. Who will be the first to the top? Who will master the rocky downhill? Will Kilian Jornet’s record get beaten? Who is capable of finishing under 2 hours? Tune in for all the answers on 15th July for the 3rd leg of the GTWS.

The COULOIR OF HELL, the race takes place on paths, tracks, and scree. A climb from Canazei to Forcella Pordoi that you will remember all your life!  A passage through the summit, Piz Boé at 3152m above sea level, before dropping into a wild descent,  full of adrenaline!

1st in Zegama, 6th at the Marathon du Mont-Blanc, Daniela Oemus (Salomon – Germany), will once again be wearing the GTWS overall leader’s yellow race bib for the DoloMyths Run. However, she’ll be up against Sophia Laukli (Salomon – USA), who confirmed she will be in Italy after her victory at the Marathon du Mont-Blanc. Will she manage a repeat performance running on more technical terrain than in Chamonix?

After a long absence due to injury, Judith Wyder (Hoka One One/Red Bull – Switzerland) is making her grand comeback on the Golden Trail Series, she won the GTWS 2019 and still holds the course record in the Dolomites. Élise Poncet (Millet – France) will also be in her element with her technical skills making her one of the world’s best downhillers. Currently 2nd in the overall ranking is Theres Leboeuf (Compressport/Leboeuf – Switzerland), she has proved her worth at the start of this year’s season, will she manage a podium spot in Italy? Keep a close eye on women such as Caitlin Fielder (Salomon – New Zealand), Karina Carsolio (Mexico), Anna-Stiina Erkkilä (Asics – Finland), Fabiola Conti (Italy) and Malen Osa (Salomon – Spain)

Men’s line-up

After his victory in Zegama and his 4th place in Chamonix, at the Dolomites the yellow leader’s race bib will be worn by Manuel Merrillas (Scarpa – Spain), he will be after precious points on super technical terrain, which will suit him down to the ground! Yet, he will be up against some punchy rivals starting with Stian Angermund (Asics – Norway), winner of the GTWS 2021 and who is making his big comeback on the Series.

Bart Przedwojewski (Salomon – Poland), currently sitting in 3rd position in the overall ranking, will also be taking advantage of this race’s technical terrain to try and grab his first victory on the GTWS 2023. Elhousine Elazzaoui (Pini Mountain Racing – Morocco), will he have recovered from his drop from the Marathon du Mont-Blanc, after finishing second in Zegama? Frédéric Tranchand (Scott – France), another technical terrain aficionado, will be one to watch very closely as he makes his entrance into this year’s Series. Absent in Chamonix, Robert Pkemoi (Sky Runners Kenya – Kenya) will be hoping to have a repeat performance of Zegama and clinch another top 5 spot this year. Others to watch are Thomas Roach (Lewes Athletics – UK), Manuel Innerhofer (Salomon – Austria), Anders Kjærevick (Salomon – Norway) and Roberto Delorenzi (Brooks – Switzerland).
