TRANSVULCANIA BY UTMB 2023 (4th-6th MAY): RACE PREVIEW & FAVORITES. Our UTMB WORLD SERIES 2023 bring us today the latest info about the UTMB 2023 World Series event, the 13th Transvulcania, which has returned to its normal dates and will be hosted from 4-6MAY in the Spanish island of La Palma.

The Half Marathon and the Marathon are renamed El Roque (28 kilometers) and Volcanes (48 kilometers), respectively, in order to avoid confusion regarding their corresponding distances. Volcanoes changes its route and will depart from the Fuencaliente Lighthouse.

The breathtaking Spanish island of La Palma is set to host the much-awaited Transvulcania 2023 Trail Running Race on May 4th-6th, 2023. This event is part of the UTMB World Series. 

The Transvulcania by UTMB has become one of the most significant events in the trail running world. Each year, elite runners from all over the world flock to the beautiful island of La Palma to participate in this challenging race, which features stunning landscapes and challenging terrain.

The 2023 edition of the Transvulcania by UTMB promises to be one of the most exciting yet. With a new course that takes runners through the beautiful and challenging terrain of La Palma, this year’s race is set to push the limits of even the most experienced runners.

TRANSVULCANIA BY UTMB 2023: THE RACES

The race will feature three main distances, catering to runners of all levels. The Ultramarathon will cover a distance of 75 km with a positive elevation gain of 4,750 meters.

The Volcanos will cover a distance of 48 km with a cpositive elevation gain of 2,850 meters, and the El Roque will cover a distance of 28 km with a positive elevation gain of 840 meters.

 

TRANSVULCANIA BY UTMB 2023: THE FAVORITES

Andreas Reiterer, Yun Yanqiao, Julia Kessler, Dakota Jones, Moana Lilly Kehres, Andrea Rico, and Alejandro Díaz, are just some of the athletes who will be on the starting lines of Ultra, Volcanes, and El Roque. In addition, as already happened in Canfranc, Luis Alberto Hernando will once again participate in the broadcast of the event.

ULTRA

At 6 in the morning, from the Fuencaliente Lighthouse, the Ultramarathon will start, with a positive difference of 4,750 meters, and 4,300 negative ones. 37 elite athletes, 31 men with over 830 UTMB Index points and 6 women with over 700 UTMB Index points, will compete to be the fastest to cover the 75 kilometers that will separate them from the finish line, located in Los Llanos de Aridane.

Andreas Reiterer, Yun Yanqiao, Mimmi Kotka, Andreu Simon, Damien Humbert, Fiona Porte, Jared Hazen, Martina Valmassoi, and Pablo Villa, are just some of the athletes who will be present at the start line.

Two former Transvulcania winners stand out, the Americans Dakota Jones and Tim Tollefson, who return in search of glory and the heat of palm trees.

VOLCANES

Three hours later, at 9 in the morning, Volcanoes 48KM will start, with its 2,850 meters of positive and 2,500 negative slopes.

In this edition, the 48-kilometre race has a new route, starting from the Fuencaliente Lighthouse and heading to Los Llanos de Aridane along the impressive route of the volcanoes, crossing some of the most magical and beautiful corners of La Isla Bonita.

Athletes of the stature of Antonio Martínez, Julia Kessler, Martin and Bernard Dematteis, Ariane Wilhem, Yoel de Paz, Moana Lilly Kehres, and Toni McCann will do their best to get a place on the podium.

EL ROQUE

El Roque, the 28-kilometre race, with 840 meters of positive and 2,932 negative elevation gain, will start at 9:30 am and start from what is one of the highest distance starts in the world.

Andrea Rico, Alejandro Díaz, Ekaterina Ryazanova, Josep Miret, Yolanda Martín, Joel Aubeso, Leire Fernández, Alexander Glez, Marta Pérez, Samuel Antana, and Yahaira Afonso are some of the favorites to win.
