TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023 VERTICAL KILOMETER: DOUBLE POLISH VICTORY FOR PRZEDWOJEWSKI & SOLIŃSKA.  Our TRANSGRANCANARIA section bring us the first results from the Canary Islands and this Transgrancanaria 2023.

On the first race of the program, the Vertical Kilometer, Bart PRZEDWOJEWSKI and Katarzyna SOLIŃSKA got the victory, both athletes from Poland. This is how our colleagues from www.carrerasdemontana.com brought it LIVE from the start for this vertical kilometer EL GIGANTE.

TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023 VERTICAL KILOMETER: DOUBLE POLISH VICTORY FOR PRZEDWOJEWSKI & SOLIŃSKA

Today, for the second consecutive year, the KV El Gigante was the starting signal for the Transgrancanaria, starting at 3:30 p.m. More than a hundred runners set out against the clock from the Agaete Valley to face the 5.5 kilometers and 1,090 meters of positive elevation gain along the historic Los Romeros path.

 

WOMEN’S RACE: VICTORY FOR KATARZYNA SOLIŃSKA

In the pre-race, the names that sounded the most were those of the German Lena Laukner, part as the favorite among the women, followed by the Belgian Marie Dessart and the Swedish Natalie Persson.

They were joined by Maciel, who returns to competition two years after suffering an accident while climbing.
However, once the race started, Poland’s Katarzyna Solinska showed that she was without a doubt the fittest climber of the day, winning in 50.32. The only rival who stood up to her was the Belgian Marie Dessart silver with 51.18.

Much further back the fight for bronze took place, with victory for the British Sophie Horrocks with 57.07, the Swedish Natalie Persson being fourth with 57.18 and closing the top 5 the Spanish Maribel García Cubas with 57.42

Fernanda Maciel, for her part, complied with dignity, entering sixth in a specialty that is by no means that of an accomplished specialist in ultras as is her case.

MEN’S RACE: BART PRZEDWOJEWSKI. CHAMPION.

Among the men, the aforementioned ‘Bart’ will face a wide range of rivals, with Yoel de Paz from La Palma as standard bearer for the Canary Islands, the Italian Henri Aymonod or the Polish Florian Pyszel.

Bart PRZEDWOJEWSKI completed a splendid double in this vertical for Poland. He won with a sensational time of 39.46. authoritatively dominating two solid rivals such as the Spanish Yoel de Paz, silver with 40.12 and the Italian Henri Aymonod, bronze with 40.47.

The three marked a huge difference with the rest of the rivals, being the top5 completed by Marcin Rzeszotko with 42.02 and Rafal Matuszczak with 42.55.

TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023: COMPLETE PROGRAM

The Transgrancanaria 2023 will debut a new model, which will last for almost a week.

  • 22FEB Wednesday, the first of the modalities will begin in San Pedro de Agaete, from where the El Gigante Vertical Kilometer of 5.5 kilometers and 1,130 positive meters will start.
  • 23FEB, Tejeda will concentrate all the prominence with the arrivals of the Promo races, of 12 kilometers and starting in Artenara, and Starter, which in 2023 will start from Tunte so that the runners face a tough climb up the Camino de La Plata up to Roque Nublo and down to the Cumbrero town center after 24 kilometers and 1,800 positive.
  • 24FEB Friday, February 24, Tejeda will once again become one of the neuralgic points with the start of the Marathon, which will finish in Maspalomas. That same day, at 11:59 p.m., it will be the turn of the queen test, which will once again start at Las Canteras beach. The Classic recovers the 2021 route, with a slight modification in the Summit section.
  • 25FEB The last of the modalities will start at 08:30 am on Saturday, February 25. The Transgrancanaria returns to the Puerto de Las Nieves de Agaete with the Advanced modality, which extends its distance to 80 kilometers and 4,500 meters of positive elevation gain. The finish line, as in the Classic, will be located in the Parque Sur of Maspalomas, a setting that repeats after the great reception it had in the last edition by runners and fans.
