TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023: LAST MINUTE AND FAVORITES KV, PROMO 12K AND STARTER 24K. Our TRANSGRANCANARIA section already travels in Carnivals to the round island, from where one more year we will bring you a new edition of its great mountain races live from FEB 22-26.
Today we focus on the last minute and favorites for “short” races like the KV and the Promo Starter, where names like. We start by reviewing the beautiful three-way duel experienced in 2022 between Pablo Villa, Pau Capell and Pere Aurell.
TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023:
LAST MINUTE AND FAVORITES KV, PROMO 12K AND STARTER 24K.
The Transgrancanaria, which is held between February 22 and 26, has once again received significant public and private support. It is not surprising, since all the Transgrancanaria 2023 races have a spectacular registration in this edition with more than 60 elite runners who will fight for victory.
Today we focus on the three “short” races: KV, Promo 12k and Starter 24km. In them, the Polish Bartlomiej Przedwojewski stands out, who arrives with the favorite band for the Vertical Kilometer (KV) El Gigante and the Starter, as well as the Brazilian veteran Fernanda Maciel, who returns to the competition with the climb from San Pedro to Tamadaba

Among the institutions that make the event possible are the sponsorship of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through Turismo de Gran Canaria and Gran Canaria Isla Europea del Deporte, the Government of the Canary Islands with Promotur – Islas Canarias, Maspalomas Costa Canaria, the Municipal Sports Institute of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Tejeda Town Hall.
TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023: EL GIGANTE VERTICAL KILOMETER.
For the second consecutive year, the KV will be the starting signal for the Transgrancanaria next Wednesday, February 22, at 3:30 p.m. More than a hundred runners will start against the clock from the Agaete Valley to face the 5.5 kilometers and 1,090 meters of positive elevation gain along the historic Los Romeros path.
The German Lena Laukner starts as the favorite among the women, followed by the Belgian Marie Dessart and the Swedish Natalie Persson. They are joined by Maciel, who returns to competition two years after suffering an accident while climbing.
Among the men, the aforementioned ‘Bart’ will face a wide range of rivals, with Yoel de Paz from La Palma as standard bearer for the Canary Islands, the Italian Henri Aymonod or the Polish Florian Pyszel.
TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023: STARTER (24K/1.800M+)
Bart and Yoel de Paz will meet again the next day with the Starter, 24 kilometers and 1,800 meters of positive elevation gain. Both are the favorites to win in a race that has more than thirty elite athletes. Among them will be the Spanish Álex García, the Italian Gianlucha Ghiano and the French Mael Allaire, all of them with more than 860 ITRA points. Aymonod and Florian Pyszel will also do the KV-Starter double.
Among the women, the American Rachel Drake will be the rival to beat. The Portland runner will face the Spanish Mireia Pons and Gisela Carrión, the latter winner of the first edition of KV El Gigante and who returns after an injury; the gala Noemie Vachon or the Swiss Rea Iseli.
TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023: PROMO (12K/725M+)
For this edition, the Starter and the Promo will share a goal in Tejeda on Thursday, February 23. The short race of the Transgrancanaria, of 12 kilometers and 725 positive metres, will feature youngsters from the Brooks team as contenders for victory, including Enzo Ratti and Camille Cucherousset.
They will face the Canaries Octavio León and Esteban García, who this year will dare with KV, Promo, Marathon and Advanced. Among the women, the victory will be played by the transalpine Cecilia Basso and the Spanish Ainara Uribarri.
TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023: COMPLETE PROGRAM
The Transgrancanaria 2023 will debut a new model, which will last for almost a week.
- 22FEB Wednesday, the first of the modalities will begin in San Pedro de Agaete, from where the El Gigante Vertical Kilometer of 5.5 kilometers and 1,130 positive meters will start.
- 23FEB, Tejeda will concentrate all the prominence with the arrivals of the Promo races, of 12 kilometers and starting in Artenara, and Starter, which in 2023 will start from Tunte so that the runners face a tough climb up the Camino de La Plata up to Roque Nublo and down to the Cumbrero town center after 24 kilometers and 1,800 positive.
- 24FEB Friday, February 24, Tejeda will once again become one of the neuralgic points with the start of the Marathon, which will finish in Maspalomas. That same day, at 11:59 p.m., it will be the turn of the queen test, which will once again start at Las Canteras beach. The Classic recovers the 2021 route, with a slight modification in the Summit section.
- 25FEB The last of the modalities will start at 08:30 am on Saturday, February 25. The Transgrancanaria returns to the Puerto de Las Nieves de Agaete with the Advanced modality, which extends its distance to 80 kilometers and 4,500 meters of positive elevation gain. The finish line, as in the Classic, will be located in the Parque Sur of Maspalomas, a setting that repeats after the great reception it had in the last edition by runners and fans.
