COSTA BLANCA TRAILS 2022.
FINAL ALPIN ULTRAS
Costa Blanca Trails is a race that, without making too much noise, has earned year after year a solid reputation for hard, beautiful races with great attention to the runners. In fact, the Costa Blanca Trails 2021 was second in our Patron Awards by popular vote, only surpassed by a myth such as Travesera Picos de Europa.
The Marina Baixa is a region of Alicante that has become famous in half the world for the beauty and charm of its villages, such as Calpe, Finestrat Altea… However, perhaps the best kept secret for mountain runners is the spectacular beauty and harshness of its mountains. Mythical names of climbing and mountain races in history, which have hosted World Cup events and major championships.
COSTA BLANCA TRAILS 2022: LAST MINUTE NEWS
Everything is ready to kick off the 2022 edition of the Finestrat Costa Blanca Trails held in Finestrat (Alicante) on the weekend of November 18 to 20. A total of 6 tests that run through the famous mountains of Alicante, thus recording the great trail scenario that the area has.
In this edition we have participants from 18 different nationals from Portugal, Japan, Switzerland, United Kingdom through Indonesia, South Korea or the United States.
ALPINULTRAS FINAL 2022 IN GRAN TRAIL COSTA BLANCA 101K
Undoubtedly, the star race is the Gran Trail Costa Blanca 101K that takes you from Puig Campana to the peak of the Sierra de Aitana as the highest point in the province passing through the Serrella, the Mallada del Llop, the Serrella peak, Pla de la Casa and the Alt Recingle. It will be the grand final of Alpinultras 2022 this year.
And with all this, it should be noted that the Gran Trail Costa Blanca 101K is part of the Alpinultras circuit that hosts the most technical races in Spain, ultra-distance crossings in high mountains.
The Alpinultras 2022 circuit closes in Finestrat Costa Blanca Trails where the victory will be disputed by two greats such as Sergio Alonso, winner of Travessera Picos 2022 and Erlantz Zaldunbide, winner of the Cainejo Challenge 2022. They will not be alone, as they will face rivals such as Miguel Mataix who was first in the 100 miles Privilegio 2021, Ana Cristina Constantin who made podium in Canfranc Ultra 100K, Mark Darbyshire who was third in Penyagolosa Trails 2021.
MORE RACES IN COSTA BLANCA TRAILS
It is closely followed by the Ultra Trail Costa Blanca in the 75K modality to which we have added as a novelty in this 2022, under that same route, the option of relays dividing this test into two sections of 35 and 40 kilometers and creating the Ultra Trail Costa Blanca Relays x2 that gives the opportunity to participate in teams of two promoting camaraderie and promoting joint work, distributing the effort but multiplying the desire to reach the finish line together.
The Costa Blanca 46K Marathon houses the magic of the most colorful summit of Puig Campana passing through the walls of the Ponoig and places such as the Racó de les Tovaines, the Port de l ́Arch and the Goleró. It is undoubtedly the star test of the weekend with 600 participants.
To close the sports weekend, Costa Blanca Trail also bets on shorter distances but without losing the charm of the terrain and offering participants a level according to the demands of the Alicante scenario in more affordable distances.
The Puig Campana Trail closes with a total of 29 kilometers and more than 2,000 meters of positive slope and the Mini Trail Finestrat of 20 kilometers circumambulating the slopes of Puig Campana, passing through the Coll de Llamp and the Coll de Sacarest. The latter can also be done walking with the aim of bringing this sporting event closer to a greater number of people.
FAVOURITES 75K-45K-29K
In the 75K modality we will have Eugenia Gil who conquered the first place in the Ultra Transylvania of 80K this year and Alberto Plazas in the same distance. In the 46K of Costa Blanca Trails we will have Álvaro González who was first in the Gran Trail Peñalara 2022 and Rodrigo Monasor. In the 29K test we will have the presence of Javi Bodas who has already won other editions of Costa Blanca Trails in longer distances.
STATEMENTS RACE DIRECTOR
From the organization of the test, the technical director Romualdo Doménech, points out that “year after year we work to place Alicante and its mountains in the trail calendar not only national but also international with the aim of consolidating Costa Blanca Trails as the test par excellence of the area in terms of distances, accumulated slopes and areas through which the tests run. A great effort is made to grow and offer the best of us to the more than 1,800 runners who choose our event.”
COSTA BLANCA TRAILS 2022:
THE TRACK
GRAN TRAIL COSTA BLANCA 101K | 107K | 6.020M+
The only centennial ultra of the event, is the supreme challenge of Costa Blanca Trails, 101 km. It starts with the Puig Campana and ends with the Pico Aitana the maximum height of Alicante. They are the two iconic peaks of the region, lived at the pull. But they are not alone: You will also pass through the Serrella, the Mallada del Llop, the Pico Serrella, Pla de la Casa and Recingle Alt.
ULTRA TRAIL COSTA BLANCA 75K | 4.100M+
Another ultra of great character, in its own right. But here, more open to a popular public that wants to crown the best of this land. And prove yourself in a tough race… but rational. It adds 75 km and more than 9,000 meters of accumulated altitude. The Puig Campana and Aitana are its summits, two vertical kilometers within an ultra trail. And with them, the satisfaction of stepping on the best of the mountains of Costa Blanca.
MARATHON COSTA BLANCA 46K | 3.100M+
The Puig Campana marathon had to be different. Harder, more colorful than the typical alpine marathons of our country. If classics like Maratón Alpino Madrileño or Zegama Aizkorri require you to climb 2,500/2,750m, here you will go up to more than three thousand. And it is no coincidence, it is that way you can live and make yours some of the sections that have deserved to host world cups. Running in the mountains with an added bonus of hardness, if: Up to 46K/D+3.100m.
But in return, crowning the Puig Campana and looking out over the entire Mediterranean from above, is priceless… You will surround the impressive walls of the Ponoig and places as impressive as the Racó de les Tovaines, Port de l ́Arch and the Goleró. Below, you have the reasons why our #patroncarrerademontana Marcos, Aragonese, has chosen to register for this test to take a step forward as a mountain runner.

MINI TRAIL FINESTRAT
It is worth the “mini” as a way of speaking, because those D + 1,000m are not taken away by anyone. Although, as you can see in this case, the organization has tried to distribute them to achieve a friendlier profile for those who are not looking for an agonizing challenge in climbing. Or vice versa, to those who love the taste of blood in the mouth and therefore seek the shortest races, but fight to the maximum of their intensity.
