SKY GRAN CANARIA 2022 (13-15OCT):
FIVE TRAILRUNNING RACES TO CHOOSE
(4K-9K-21K-50K-82K)
On 15 October, Gran Canaria will once again host one of the most important mountain races in the Canary Islands, the fifth edition of the Sky Gran Canaria, with one of the most impressive courses.
The race returns with its three races for all types of runners:
- UP&DOWN SKY. NEW 4km | 312 M+ at Agaete.
- VERTICAL SKY: NEW 9km |1.391 M+ from Agaete to Pinar Tamadaba.
- MINISKY AA21,21 km from Artenara to Puerto de Agaete
- TRAILSKY TAA50, f50 km from Tunte to Puerto de Agaete
- ULTRASKY AAA82 eighty-two kilometers from Arguineguín to Puerto de Agaete.
Three races in one, all equally exciting, running mostly on trails and running from south to north of the island through seven different municipalities, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Mogán, Artenara, Tejeda, Vega de San Mateo, Guía and Agaete, the latter municipality hosting the event.
Offering a challenging technical difficulty, but always with absolute safety for the runner and also giving them the chance to enjoy the incredible landscapes of the island of Gran Canaria, accompanied by the enviable climate that the island enjoys practically all year round.
SKY GRAN CANARIA 2022: DISTANCES AND NEW RACES
VERTICAL SKYALP 9K |1.400M+ (THURSDAY13OCT)
This year, the V Sky Gran Canaria presents a new distance, the VERTICALSKY9, a new SKY challenge. The route connects Agaete with the Pinar de Tamadaba, a unique natural resource on the island at an altitude of more than 1,200 meters.
Nine kilometers of course with almost 1,400 meters of elevation gain make this new race proposal a real vertical, with an average of 155 meters of elevation gain per kilometer run. This race will launch the Sky fifth edition on the afternoon of Thursday 13 October.
ULTRASKY AA82. 82K | 4350M+ (15OCT-0.00H)
The ULTRASKY AAA82, the main event, will start at 00:00 h. on the 15th of October, from Arguineguín, with a maximum time of 19 hours to cover the eighty-two kilometers with 4,530 meters of positive vertical drop. The record time to beat is 8:31:10, achieved by Ionel Cristian Manole in the last edition.
The TRAILSKY TAA50 will start at the Plaza de la Iglesia in Tunte at 8:00 h., and the MINISKY AA21 will start at Artenara at 9:30 h.
The three modalities finish in the Port of Agaete, the nerve centre of the race with everything the runners may need before, during and after the race, and a big party for the runners as a final. The awards ceremony will once again be held at the emblematic Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves.
SKY GRAN CANARIA 2022: SUSTAINABILITY
In the same line as in previous editions, the Sky Gran Canaria is committed to sustainability, spreading good environmental practices among its runners and followers, discouraging the use of plastic and penalizing participants who throw away food waste and rubbish, as well as encouraging the use of buses at each start, which the Organization has made available to participants to reduce the impact of private vehicles. The race has also thought of people with reduced mobility, for whom there are specific awards and complies with parity between men and women in its prize-giving.
As in previous editions, the V Sky Gran Canaria is included in the calendar of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) and the International Trail Running Association (ITRA). This race counts towards the ITRA, the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc and the German Ultramarathon Association.
