INFINITE TRAILS 2022: MORE THAN A RACE, A TRAILRUNNING COMMUNITY. Our MOUNTAIN RACES CALENDAR 2022 continues with the calendar updates for this 2022 and today is the time of the, already a classic in the Austrian Alps, the adidas INFINITE TRAILS 2022 and the results of a weekend full of expereinces for all  runners.

The adidas INFINITE TRAILS took place and no matter if you were to experience how a community really celebrates itself and its sport or you were a professional runner,  the adidas INFINITE TRAILS celebrated in the Gastain Valley, Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein,fulfilled all expectations.

Over 950 athletes from 52 nations arrived to Gastein/ SalzburgerLand (Austria) to crown their trail running season with a very special ending and as the organization promoted the event: #CELEBRATETHESPORT

With a changing meteo that, in principle, was showing very difficult and bad weather in the summits, the organization together with the mountain patrols decided not to change the original tracks as no storms were expected.

At the end, it was a great decision as the weather respected almost all runners, with only some showers in the afternoon and temperatures very good to run, even in alpine terrain.

ADIDAS INFINITE TRAILS 2022: THE RACES

#3RUNNERS- #3LOOPS – #ONETEAM

Three runners start at adidas INFINITE TRAILS as a team in the three categories women, men or mixed.

Each team must cover a total distance of around 100 kilometres and 7,600 meters in altitude, divided into three different loops that consider different types of runners (half marathon to marathon): Loop S = 21km/1900m – Loop M = 34km/2700m – Loop L = 44km/3000m). To have enough racing time for all three distances in daylight, the team members started at the same time.

The race bring the teams through the valleys, mountains and beautiful views of the Gastein valley.

SOLO RUNNERS

Solo runners are also welcome at the adidas INFINITE TRAILS and can choose between three distances: 15K, 45K or 65K.

Along with the relay race of around 100 kilometers with 7,600 meters of climbing, divided into three different loops (21K/34K/44K), adidas INFINITE TRAILS offer three distances for solo runners in 2022: the spectacular 65K loop over three Gastein summits (65km/5,000m), a new 45K route and the popular 15K loop.

ADIDAS INFINITE TRAILS 2022: LOCAL AND SUSTAINABLE

One of the ideas that has been shared from the organization during the whole weekend has been the compromise with the sustainability and also to stay local.

But apart from not offering plastic cups in the aid stations what did it mean? 

No running during the night, even in the ultra distance, to respect the animals in the forest.

Also, the night before of the race there was no pasta party, but a carbo load organized by the local restaurants of the valley, also offering traditional food from the are of Gastein. Moreover, the food offered in the different aid stations, must had a compostable packaging.

For all the participants, the public transport was completely free of charge, but not only in the valley, but also in the whole Salzburg province, even to the border with Germany, to help the athletes arriving by public transportation instead of by his/her own car.

Both, the finisher medals and the winners prizes were hand made with wood from the valley and the medals even manually decorated by the kid of the local schools, giving to every single participant an unique medal to remember the great run.

Definitive great initiatives that will help all of us to develop more and more consciousness on how can we as trailrunners contribute to take more care of our planet.

ADIDAS INFINITE TRAILS 2022: THE AFTER PARTY

All the participants are invited after the race into the local Alpentherme Gastein, with free buffet and free drinks the whole afternoon until the prizes ceremony which also takes place at the Thermes as you can see in the pictures below.

Probably the only trailrunning event in the world where the winners go up to the podium wearing their swimming clothes and are welcomed by hundreds of runners inside of a swimming pool.

So the adidas Infinite Trails at Bad Hofgastein, are different to many (or all) other trail running events around the world, and not only because they greet and meet athletes from almost all over the world, (52 nationalities this year), but also from the maximum attention to detail from the organization which makes any athlete, family or visitor to feel at home.

And without forgetting the breath taking views that you can enjoy from all of the different races in the Gastein valley.
