SALOMON RUNNING 2022 BRINGS ADOPTS CARBON PLATE
SIX NEW SHOES FOR ROAD RUNNING

The theme for Salomon’s Spring/Summer 2022 road running footwear range is Speed…for everyone. The new offerings in the range are built on the belief that feeling fast is not only for elite runners chasing records, but for the everyday runners and weekend warriors as well.

In keeping with Salomon’s heritage of delivering innovation through biomechanical expertise, the new road running shoes for 2022 will bring speed through a new technology called Energy Blade, which takes an original and consumer-centric approach to carbon plated footwear development. That approach was to create an insert technology that is fine-tuned to the needs of different types of runners, which meant adjusting the insert material in each shoe model as well as the precise location of the insert within the shoe to suit the needs of certain categories of runners.

In all, the Salomon road running range for Spring/Summer 2022 features Speed shoes in the form of the S/Lab Phantasm CFPhantasm and Spectur; a new Distance shoe in the Glide Max; and Training shoes with the Sonic 5 BalanceSonic 5 ConfidencePredict 2Predict Soc 2 and Predict Mod.

SALOMON GLIDE MAX: HIGHLIGHTS

  • Energy Surge: Lightweight, responsive foam created by combining EVA and Olefin [OBC] to deliver long-lasting cushion and bouncy energy return.
  • Reverse Camber: Inspired by Salomon’s ski heritage, this curved midsole geometry helps you feel like you are floating over the ground.
  • Engineered Mesh: Engineered mesh is a structure that varies the weave to offer more support and durability or flexibility and breathability, according to the specific needs of the shoe.
  • Road Contagri: the Road Contagrip® combines flat, wide lugs for grip on flat, hard surfaces, with a compound that balances durability and adhesion. Ideal for road running.
  • SensiFit™: SensiFit™ cradles the foot from the midsole to the lacing system, providing a secure, snug, and virtually customized fit all around the foot.
  • Regular laces: Traditional lacing system with eyelets.

UPPER

The upper part of the shoe includes the Sensifit technology that is already incorporated in other models of the brand and that will give us good breathability while a good fit of the foot inside the shoe, so necessary for our daily training.

While the front of the cover is lighter and more breathable, the back, especially the heel area, is more reinforced, providing that necessary security and support.

The Salomon Glide Max has a traditional lace system. Thanks also to the design of the mesh and the distribution of the eyelets, they will provide us with a perfect fit.

MIDSOLE

The compound of the midsole, Energy Surge, gives us a great cushioning, necessary for our daily workouts and also for long distances, in addition to combining EVA with olenific fiber (OBC) it is very light but without losing that reactivity so necessary when we need it.

We are facing a shoe with very high profiles (37,4mm – 27,4mm), it is the most maximalist shoe of the French brand in its 2022 asphalt range, a shoe with these profiles that was missing from its catalog and that approaches in this way a runner profile that prioritizes more comfort and cushioning over fast rhythms.

Also highlight the geometry of the front of the shoe, Reverse Camber, which guarantees a smooth transition and reactivity in any distance you travel.

OUTSOLE

The sole of the Salomon Glide Max has the Road Contagrip compound, which guarantees us a much-needed durability in this profile of shoes intended to train daily with them and also for long distances.

The presence of rubber is the main protagonist of the sole that, due to its design, we believe can also work well on terrain and trails without technical difficulties without having excessive wear and preserving much of the adhesion provided by the Contagrip compound.

SALOMON GLIDE MAX: CONCLUSIONS

Salomon is a little closer to the popular asphalt runner with this new shoe intended for daily training, with great cushioning and high profiles that were still missing in its running catalog in which lighter shoes and for faster runners stood out above all.

Also highlight the weight of the shoe (275 grs), a lighter weight than other training shoes and with great cushioning that exist in the market as, for example, the Asics Gel Nimbus 24 (290 grs) or, one of the maximalist shoes par excellence, the New Balance More v3 (320 grs).

The Salomon Glide Max has all the numbers to become one of the most used asphalt shoes by the popular runner for their daily workouts and that prioritize cushioning and comfort over fast rhythms.

The sole, with the Road Contagrip compound, is a durability insurance, so necessary in this type of shoes intended to run long distances without excessive wear of the sole. Anyway, despite having high expectations with the shoe we will have to see if it really works as well as it seems.
