TRAIL VERBIER SAINT BERNARD BY UTMB 2022: 90 DAYS TO GO! Our UTMB section bring us today another stage of the 2022 UTMB® World Series: Trail Verbier Saint-Bernard by UTMB®

Trail Verbier Saint-Bernard by UTMB® – which will be taking place from July 8 to 10, 2022 – is indeed a unique race, with its steep terrain and vertical ascents.

When you think about big ascents in trail running races, it’s impossible not to think about the infamous slopes of Trail Verbier Saint Bernard by UTMB®.

Created in 2009, this adventure through the Swiss Alps is one of those classics you have to check off once in your life.

Over the years, the organizers have been able to make their mark and continue innovating in order to “offer a new lease of life to this event, which will always maintain its core values and its roots in the region. The event is supported by committed volunteers who give it its authentic character, which has been widely praised by those who have already honored us by coming to run it,” explains Tiphaine Artur and Matthieu Girard, co-presidents of the event.

With less than 90 days to go until the start of the event, there are still a few spots available to enter the following races, which will no doubt leave their mark on every runner’s body and mind.

TRAIL VERBIER SAINT BERNARD BY UTMB 2022: THE RACES

X-ALPINE | 140km| 9300 D+ | 8 JULY | VERBIER
Starting at 22.00 from Verbier, the first ascent leads you to La Pierre Avoi and then downhill to Sembrancher. From there the route wanders through a number of small mountain villages to Champex, then moves on towards the Cabane d’Orny which marks the highest point of the race (2826m), among the glaciers.
The race continues, passing through La Fouly, the Lacs de Fenêtre, the legendary Col du Grand St-Bernard, the Col des Chevaux and the Col de Mille.  The run to Panossière in its majestic setting is the most beautiful part of the race. All that remains is to climb the famous 1200m wall before crossing the finish line in Verbier. Time allowed: 42h Running Stones: 4
X-TRAVERSÉE | 76KM | 5300 D+ | 9 JULY | VERBIER

The Col des Chevaux has become part of the race from this year – a change that makes the route even more Alpine! Starting at La Fouly, the runners are directed to the sublime Lacs de Fenêtre, the Col du Grand St-Bernard, the Col des Chevaux and the Col de Mille; and the race then continues past Panossière in its wonderful setting.

The view of the Grand Combin (4314m) and the crossing of the Corbassière footbridge (190m long) are the high points of the X-Traversée. The ascent of the 1200m “wall” is the final challenge in this magnificent route. Time allowed: 15h Running Stones: 2

VERBIER MARATHON 45KM | 4000 D+ |9 JULY | VERBIER

For this year the additional 600m to Mt Rogneux is now fully part of the main race and the shorter route becomes the alternative. Both Marathons start in Liddes and the main race will continue up to the top of Mt Rogneux (3084m).

The trail then goes down alongside some mountain lakes to reach the Brunet hut where the race continues towards Panossières, with its suspension bridge and its glaciers. At the end of the trail, you’ll still have to face the wall: the Lourtier-La Chaux ascent to be allowed to go down to Verbier and pass the finish line. Time allowed: 15h Running Stones: 2

 

VERBIER X_PLORE | 26KM | 1700 D+ | 10 JULY | VERBIER

This race has been especially designed as an introduction to trail running. It is suitable for any kind of runners and isn’t technically too difficult, while offering superb and extensive views of Verbier.

The race starts from the centre of the resort then, after a first climb towards Pierre Avoi, well known for its panoramic picture-postcard views, the route takes a splendid hillside path to Attelas, continues to the Cabane Mont-Fort and then follows a section of the charming Bisse du Levron irrigation channel.

The Verbier X-Plore then joins the other races’ route and finishes by crossing Verbier. Time allowed: 7h Running Stones: 1
