Historically, it was always prioritised style and comfort over performance. Although it has similarities with its road colleague, the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 38 in the year 2021 verdion, it would be somewhat simplistic, reducing it simply to a “trail version”.
It is true that its design refers us to the classic look of the Pegasus asphalters, but as we will see it has its own personality.
The Nike React foam offers a reactive cushioning, while the sole created for the mountain seeks to move us well on firm ground, be it track, trail or, occasionally, some punctual rocky terrain.
It also provides greater support in the midfoot to offer security at each exit. The sole is obviously the clearest difference that we will see later in detail.

The midsole offers a simple configuration: full-body Nike React foam. There is no Zoom Air unit like on the Terra Kiger or the “normal” Pegasus for the road.
The sole is 36mm thick under the heel and 26mm under the fingers. Therefore, the drop is 10 mm, which is relatively standard and works well for most people.
The Pegasus Trail 3 has no rock plate, but as we will see in the grip section, you probably do not need it, since it is not a shoe for very technical rocky terrain.
ENGINEERED MESH UPPER, DYNAMIC FIT, REINFORCED TAB
The cover was one of the weakest points of the previous version, for being too loose and not offering the necessary lock in our strong bottom. Nike improves the adjustment with midfoot lock.
The heel also fits better and locks the foot securely In addition, the toe cap is more spacious which offers more comfort without compromising the lock.
SOLE GRIP AND DURABILITY
It is a basic shoe in this regard, effective on dry dirt trails and even comfortable on the road. It’s on wet ground where things get ugly.
The shockwave design and multidirectional studs may not offer enough grip, especially on muddy surfaces. Therefore, this Nike Pegasus Trail 3 will go well especially for your daily workouts and long-distance runs on mild or moderately technical trails.
NIKE PEGASUS TRAIL 3: CONCLUSION
A very suitable shoe to jump from the asphalt to a pious trail, if you are a regular of the brand. Despite a limited grip on technical terrain such as mud or wet rock, this third version of Nike Pegasus Trail is not without its strengths in terms of comfortable padded ride.
Its wide cushioning, combined with the improved cover that is safer with a near-perfect fit, makes it an attractive option for long runs on firm and simple terrain.
