Romanian Cristian Manole and Canadian Claire Heslop are crowned winners of the UltraSky AAA82 of the Be Cordial Sky Tour Gran Canaria.

SKY GRAN CANARIA 2021 RACE REPORT

 

The Romanian runner Lionel Cristian Manole and the Canadian athlete Claire Heslop were winners of the ultra distance race of the fourth edition “Be Cordial Beyond the Coast Sky Tour Gran Canaria”.

The Ultra Sky AAA82, of 82 kilometers, started at midnight on Friday 15th from El Pajar beach in Arguineguín, to cross the island passing through Pico de Las Nieves, Cruz de Tejeda, Artenara, until reaching the finish line located in the Puerto de Las Nieves, in Agaete, the same spot for all three courses.

The winner Lionel Cristian Manole, dominated from start to finish. He finished with a total time of eight hours, thirty-one minutes.

A very exciting fight for the second and third position took place. Both local runners, Ricardo Trujillo and Alejandro Mayor, maintained differences of between two and three minutes until reaching Artenara, km 61.4, where they passed practically together. But within the last 20 km, Trujillo gained an advantage of about eight minutes from Mayor. Fourth would become Yeray Durán, and fifth would be for Daniel Sosa.

In women category, the Canadian Claire Heslop from the very beginning dominated the race escorted by the local runner Sandra Moreno. At the km 61.4 Moreno took the lead with less than a minute of advantage. But in the last 20 km the Canadian overtook the Canarian runner, gaining three minutes on the finish line, with a total time of eleven hours, fifty seven minutes. Third position would go for the Latvian Elina Kabalina.

The Trail Sky TAA50, a medium course of 50 km, started at Plaza de Tunte. All the finishers can witness the harshness of this race, increased by temperatures that exceeded thirty degrees and the haze prevailing during the whole day.

Tough fight for the final victory between Ramón José Roger and Enric Gómez. They passed together by Pico de Las Nieves, Cruz de Tejeda and Artenara. The final victory went for Roger becoming Gómez second on the podium; César Rodríguez completed the podium with his third position.  In women category, the triumph was for the Slovenian Ana Flasker.

Finally in the Mini Sky AA21, with a distance of 21 km, the absolute winners were Samuel Santana and Yazmina Castro.

The “Be Cordial Beyond The Coast Sky Tour Gran Canaria” is organized by MOVE RUN, and has announced its fifth edition on October 15, 2022.
