FIRST WOMAN UNDER 3 HOURS: 2 h 59 min 54 sec

Desiree Linden was born on July 26, 1983. Consolidated today as one of the great marathon runners around the world, it has been twice Olympic. She represented the United States at both the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics women’s marathon achieving the 7th place in Rio with a time of 2h26min08sec.

In addition, in 2018, she won the Boston Marathon, becoming the first American in 33 years to win the women’s category at the event. With a personal best in marathon of 2h22 min dated in 2011, this weekend event represents a step further in Linden career who has been in the elite for the last 10 years.

As World Athletics officially confirmed yesterday, Desiree Linden broke the 50km world record in Oregon breaking the previously time of 3:07:20, achieved by Aly Dixon in 2019. In this way, she became the first woman to run 50 km in less than three hours, downd until 2:59:54 during a specially organized event in Oregon, USA.

This is an extra-dynamic feat. Over time, the 2018 Boston Marathon champion has downgraded the previous world record of 3:07:20 by more than seven minutes. A very recent mark in addition, as it had been established by the British Alyson Dixon when she won the 50 km world title in 2019. Moreover, it has blown up the previous US-ratified record in 14 minutes. US, which was 3:13:51 signed by Janis Klecker in 1983.

Des Linden has run this weekend her first official “ultra” however, she is used to run many miles in her normal trainings.  Thus, last October she completed a 496-mile ‘Destober’ challenge where just in the last week of the month she did 196 miles (315 km)
