PATAGONIA RUN 2021: MOUNTAIN RACES RETURN TO SAN MARTÍN DE LOS ANDES. Sergio Pereyra and Adriana Vargas won the 100 miles. Our TRAIL RUNNING ARGENTINA section today celebrates the return of mountain races to San Martín de los Andes after the cancellation of the previous year.

A purely national edition has been held this weekend, given the closure of international flights. We go with the chronicle and details of an event, where the most important thing was not the podiums themselves, but to feel like mountain runners again in Argentina.

PATAGONIA RUN 2021 SERGIO PEREYRA AND ADRIANA VARGAS EARN 100 MILES.

Patagonia Run is a race on trails and mountain trails, non-stop, of individual participation, that this 2021 had six mountain races for all profiles of athletes: of trail-run debutants and short-distance runners to experienced runners over long distances and unevenness. The race planned for 2020 was cancelled due to COVID19, so the last previous edition was the Patagonia Run 2019.

PATAGONIA RUN 2021: SAN MARTIN DE LOS ANDES, OPERATIONS CENTER.

San Martín de los Andes is a beautiful city, in the south-western province of Neuquén. It is located at an altitude of 640m. and 1575 km from Buenos Aires. It is located in the Andes Mountains, Argentina, on the east coast of Lake Lacar. Its landscapes make it a very important tourist resort in the province of Neuquén. It is a young city, founded on February 4, 1898 by Colonel Celestino Pérez, as the last Patagonian city framed in the desert campaign.

To reach it, we access by National Route 401 and it has an airport 21.6 km from the center. This weekend, the city of San Martín de los Andes dressed as a hostess to welcome competitors who lived adrenaline, adventure and dreamy landscapes. Within the framework of the pandemic, Patagonia Run made and approved strict health protocols in the province of Neuquén to care for the runners that came to enjoy each path of the Lanín National Park.

PATAGONIA RUN 2021: RESULTS

As reflected in the image above, there is no doubt that San Martín de los Andes has one of the most striking landscapes in the world, nestled in the most beautiful of South America in Patagonia Andina Argentina.

By 2021, once again you could opt for the 10k and 21k sub marathon distances, 42k marathon distances, and 70k, 110k and 100 mile (160k) ultramarathon distances. The departure for the 100 miles returned to the spectacular coast of Lake Lacar in San Martín de los Andes, while for distances 10k, 21k, 42k, 70k and 110k will be around the city.

With strict health protocols, a new edition of Patagonia Run Columbia Montrail was held in San Martín de los Andes. Sergio Pereyra debuted here in the 100 miles distance in 2019. He did so with great success because he achieved a brilliant silver, only surpassed by Pau Capell, which already showed the excellent way in which he would soon win the hundred miles of UTMB in Chamonix.

100 MILES

This 2021 Sergio Pereyra won with authority. The native of Junín de los Andes was crowned in the 100 miles with a time of: 21hs 30 min 25sec. The podium was completed with Luciano Pilatti with 21hs 58 min 18sec, thirdly Gabriel Santos Rueda with 22 hs 08 min 42 sec and fourth place went to Facundo Romera with a time of 22hs 23min 14 sec. The 100 female miles went to Adriana Vargas with 26h 26 min 25 sec. Secondly came Tania Diaz Slater 26h 30min 27seg, Veronica Ramirez in third place 26hs 55min 23sec and Sofia Cantilo with 29hs 40 min 18sec.

110KM: As far as the 110k who headed was Jesus Aguero, secondly, Miguel Lottero and completed the Nicolas Alfageme podium. The women’s 110k went to Eliana Marinero, second place for Martina Demateo and third place for Elisa Maria García.

70KM: The men’s 70k went to Ricardo Manzur, Ramiro Torres and Marcos Suhit, while the women’s category Emilia Moreno, Ma de los Angeles Oyarbide Corvalan and Alejandra Pennissi.

Marathon: The 42k men’s award comes first for Hugo Rodriguez, second place for Joaquin Narvaez and third place for Diego Simon; as far as the female podium was concerned, it was for Roxana Flores, Yennifer Castro and Ruth Onate.
