SCARPA TRAILRUNNING 2021: NEW SCARPA RIBELLE RUN, SCARPA SPIN INFINITY, SCARPA GOLDEN GATE ATR AND SCARPA SPIN 2.0

SCARPA TRAIL RUNNING 2021: New Scarpa Ribelle Run, Infinity, Spin 2.0 and Golden Gate ATR. Our section TRAIL SHOES the new SCARPA models for the spring of 2021. They are three sisters, which combine evolution of veteran models like the SPIN 2.0 with new launches of the Italian brand. They all share the same 4mm drop and average height levels. But they provide a wide variety of soles, cushioning and reinforcements depending on the type of intended use.

SCARPA: THE HISTORY

The brand SCARPA was founded in the foothills of the Dolomite Mountains, and its initial mission was to bring together all the best shoemakers in the Asolo area toward the goal of producing the best footwear anywhere. SCARPA stands for Società Calzaturiera Asolana Riunita Pedemontana Anonima, which means Associated Shoe Manufacturing Company of the Asolo Mountain Area.

It was immersed in this tradition of craftsmanship and heritage that Luigi Parisotto, who would eventually purchase the company with his brothers and grow it into a family enterprise, first began learning the art of making fine footwear. Parisotto began learning his craft at age 11 in 1940 and went to work for SCARPA in 1942. From the beginning, Parisotto loved the process of building handcrafted footwear, and in the early 1950s ran his own shoe-manufacturing business, S. Giorgio, with his brothers, turning out between four and 15 pairs of handmade shoes a day. These were sold to local farmers who sought out shoes that were both comfortable and indestructible.

Now, the next generation of the Parisotto family is continuing the pursuit of innovative mountain footwear. Sandro, Piero, Davide and Cristina Parisotto continue to lead the company to produce the finest footwear for mountaineering, trekking, hiking, alpine running, climbing and skiing. In 2005, SCARPA opened its North American headquarters, headed by veterans of the outdoor industry in North America.

Their motto: “We are passionate about our sports; we are passionate about boot making; we are passionate about performance”.

SCARPA TRAIL RUNNING 2021: A GROWING BET.

Like many of you know, SCARPA is an Italian company with a long history among the world leaders in the production of mountain and outdoor activities. For a couple of years it has been committed to relaunching its trail running range, under the guidance of the five-time World Mountain Running champion Marco de Gasperi as brand manager. The first semester 2021 arrives with four great novelties:

  • SCARPA GOLDEN GATE ATR: All-rounder, versatile shoe for easy and mixed trails
  • SCARPA SPIN INFINITY: Ultimate shoe, dedicated to long running with light weight and high performance
  • SCARPA RIBELLE RUN: The most technical and rocky version, for alpine-type events
  • SCARPA SPIN 2.0: Evolution of the model that covers the short and medium distance

Scarpa Spin Ultra, the fifth element: The consolidation of what could end up being a modern classic stands out in the catalog. A shoe with great reliability and grip, which already showed its potential last year in this Scarpa Spin Ultra 300km in-depth test by Mayayo. This 2021 it maintains its price of 149€ for a weight of 300 grams, drop 6 and that wonderful Vibram Megagrip sole that served us, for example, to climb the Pico Palas (2921m) in the Pyrenees and climb the Letour chimney with them.

SCARPA TRAIL RUNNING 2021: A GROWING BET.

Scarpa bets on Spain as a key market for its mountain races. In addition, looking to the future, SCARPA and De Gasperi will expand the range of trail running footwear to a growing audience of enthusiasts and fans alike who are looking for an innovative and performance product. Hence, the attention to women with specific versions that you can see below. Also expanding versions to confront with guarantees the different modalities of mountain races: From technical cresting to long running.

New PEBEX RENEW, more environmentally friendly: Material research leads to the introduction of a new material, Pebax Renew, in some trail running shoes. It is an ecological material derived from corn plantations, which allows to re-elaborate a product proposal for the runners more attentive to sustainability issues. It was chosen because, in addition to being sustainable, it performs with quality. According to the brand, it provides considerable rebound and cushioning, it has no memory and therefore does not deform with use, also offering greater durability. Hopefully so, we will tell you about it in our in-depth tests. Scarpa Trail Running 2021: Four novelties, plus two veterans. This is how the range is staggered.

SCARPA TRAIL RUNNING 2021: THE 4 NOVELTIES.

SCARPA SPIN 2.0: TRAIL RUNNING SHOES FOR SHORT AND MIDDLE DISTANCES.

There are three absolute firsts in SCARPA’s trail running category for this spring and besides them, this model is the only one that supposes an evolution. Building on an established veteran like the Spin model, this new Spin 2.0 ups the ante with improved midsole performance and eco-friendly qualities.

Scarpa Spin 2.0. Data sheet:

  • Price 169€
  • Weight 250gr (42EUR)
  • Height to ground: 16-20mm
  • Drop: 4mm
  • Sole: Scarpa Fixion
  • Damping: Pebax Renew

Designed as the brand’s lightest and fastest trail running shoe, the Scarpa Spin 2.0 debuts the Pebax® Renew midsole discussed earlier. Thus, an improved rebound is sought for the elite runner and a better resistance to sustained compression that increases the useful life and performance of the shoe, vital for the popular.

SCARPA SPIN INFINITY: ULTRA RUNNING SHOES, LONG RUNNING WITH LIGHT WEIGHT AND HIGH PERFORMANCE.

The latest addition to the award-winning Spin family, Spin Infinity, will be our most cushioned offering to date. Designed for long-distance trail training, the Spin Infinity has a dual-density midsole, with a low-density base that provides cushioning and shock absorption, and a firmer EVA layer that provides lightweight stability and torsional control.

Scarpa Spin Infinity. Data sheet:

  • Price149 €
  • Weight 310gr (42EUR)
  • Height to ground: 22-26mm
  • Drop: 4mm
  • Sole: Vibram Megagrip
  • Damping: Pebax Renew

As you can see, a 4 mm drop in the midsole is technically demanding for an ultimate. But if you master it, it helps you have a more efficient gait, further enhancing your long distance capabilities. Safe contact with the ground is provided by the Vibram sole, which combines 4mm studs and Megagrip rubber to optimize traction and grip. The cover, with Sock-Fit construction, is lightweight and breathable, but still provides support to wrap your feet and a secure fit. This combination of sole and cover has sought to combine weight savings, while maintaining high cushioning, support and traction. All these elements seek to make it a trail machine for high mileage at agile rates.

SCARPA RIBELLE RUN: THE MOST TECHNICAL AND ROQUERA VERSION, FOR ALPINE TYPE TESTS.

Designed to be highly durable and technically accurate, the new lightweight Ribelle Run was born to cover daily training, as well as short to medium distance races on rough and rocky terrain. Baptizing it “Ribelle Run” is still a tribute to the brand’s mountaineering heritage, where there is also a Ribelle mountain boot. A name that already makes it clear to Scarpa veterans, that this is a mountain shoe.

Scarpa Spin Ribelle Run. Data sheet:

  • Price 139 €
  • Weight 250gr (42EUR)
  • Height to ground: 20.5-24.5mm
  • Drop: 4mm

The cover combines a highly breathable mesh with TPU plastic reinforcements. It is also reinforced with ripstop for greater resistance to abrasion. The side band provides TPU protection around the perimeter, inspired by climbing shoes, provides more structure and a high level of protection. The adjustment wants to be more precise, using a medium width last that has a slightly smaller volume, which allows to fine-tune the supports on technical trails. This fit is enhanced by the Sock-Fit Slip On construction, where the ankle collar is integrated with the tongue in a stretch fabric, reducing bulk and sealing off road debris. To finish off the upper part it has a quick cinch lacing. Underfoot, a SuperGum rubber provides exceptional traction and friction, while other alternatives are more durable.

SCARPA GOLDEN GATE ATR: ALL-ROAD, ALL-ROUND SHOE FOR EASY AND MIXED TRAILS.

The SCARPA GOLDEN GATE ATR also uses its name to explain itself. The American trail is better known for its high paces on easy trails and slopes than for its passion for the technical. And if we also add the acronym ATR «All Terrain», it already explains that it is a shoe baptized as «door to trail»

For this, a reliable and comfortable development has been prioritized for their daily training. If you bet on it, you will have in this SCARPA GOLDEN GATE ATR an impeccable transition shoe, from the asphalt to the track and the trail. An extremely versatile solution.
