THE GRAN TRAIL COURMAYEUR 2021: EVENT CANCELLED DUE COVID-19, WILL BE BACK IN 2021

The Gran Trail Courmayeur is composed of three trail runs through a natural landscape, along Val Veny and Val Ferret with the start and finishing line in the municipality of Courmayeur and going through the municipalities of Pré-Saint-Didier and La Thuile. This is a single – stage race with complete freedom in speed that must be completed within a set time. VDA Trailers, organization of the event has launched the following statement:

The need to do everything possible to stop the spread of Covid-19 and to ensure that the measures taken by governments throughout the world give results even in the medium term, combined with the uncertainty of when and it will be possible again to organise events, have forced VDA Trailers to take the decision to cancel the Gran Trail Courmayeur 2020, scheduled for 10-12 July.

As of today, it is not possible to propose an international race ran by more than 1000 athletes from more than 30 countries, without the risk of restarting an infection that, in these days, seems to be facing a waning phase, at least in Italy. Besides, the containment measures adopted by the various world states deny the possibility of gathering and move across regions and countries.

“For us it is a forced choice, because the attention to people’s health must still be kept very high,” says Alessandra Nicoletti, president of VDA Trailers, “ and because, as of today, every kind of event is forbidden. The current situation is constantly changing and cannot give us certainty about what will happen from here to mid-July. This cancellation, however, gives us even greater desire and greater energy to propose an edition of the Gran Trail Courmayeur in greater style in 2021″.

Athletes will be refunded according to the regulations.
