We continue to review the extensive New Balance trail runnig catalogue: We have already presented several NB shoes in the last days such as the versatile NB Fresh Foam Hierro V6, the maximalists NB More Trail V1 or the NB Nitrel V4 for initiation, with great value for money.

Today we bring you the New Balance Minimus Trail 10V1, successors to the classic Minimus that emerged in the midst of the rise of minimalism, with different touches but maintaining the same essence with which they were conceived. Let’s go with the technical and alternative analysis, by Mayayo.

NEW BALANCE MINIMUS TRAIL 10 V REVIEW TECHNICAL ANALYSIS BY MAYAYO.

The New Balance Minimus saga is a history of mountain racing, deservedly. Back in 2012 the first one was born. It was christened New Balance Minimus Zero, as many older brothers came out too radical perhaps, as we would soon see. From New Balance it was quickly reoriented and improved, with a true luxury leader, Anton Krupicka.

Back then, Leadville was the epicentre of the world’s minimalist explosion. A real tsunami, caused in 2009 by the book “Born To Run” based on Tarahumararas vs Ann Trason’s epic duel in Leadville 1994. And at the time, leadville’s great dominator 100 Miles was Anton Krupicka, a two-time 2006-2007 runner-up who in the next five years ran alone against the ghost of Matt Carpenter’s record, forcing himself into the abyss for going all out, despite leading the race with up to 90 minutes’.

That Anton, who ran semi-naked, with little more than a trouser and mane in the wind, thoroughly empathized with the minimalist philosophy. From that passion was born what, for many even today, was the best minimalist mountain racing shoe, the NB Minimus Trail 110 AK. With those shoes we saw him run big ultras of those years, from the hundred miles of UTMB to the tragic Ultra Pirineu 2012 where he was the only one able to keep up with Kilian, closing with the silver.

THE MAXIMALISM RETURNS TO THE TOP.

As always happens, the pendulum changed over the years. Abuses in the leap to minimalism caused bulging injuries. That, coupled with new technical developments that lightened the foams, well taken advantage of by brands such as Hoka or Altra, led to a generation of almost opposite shoes.

Yes, they kept the idea of the drop under almost all of them. But they applied it to an inflated mattress, from 24mm to 32mm or more. Minimalism, on the other hand, has slowly deflated. The NB itself now offers a great maximalist for your mountain races, the NB MORE TRAIL V1. with up to 33mm of heel mattress and 29mm in front.

NB Minimus Trail 10 V1 in full 2021: it wasn’t dead, it was in a party….! The last NB Minimus of the original family was perhaps the MT10 V4 of 2016.

For a while, it seemed that the NB Minimus saga would be lost. But it wasn’t, the very popular pressure of its fans caused New Balance to consider recovering it from 2019. For this purpose, he chose the most classic version among the classic ones, the NB Minimus Trail 10 V1. that today you can find in the online store of New Balance Spain a price 120€.

NEW BALANCE MINIMUS TRAIL 10 V1. Conclusions: Without a doubt, this has been Anton Kupricka’s great legacy for New Balance. A very light, comfortable and stable trail shoe, with outstanding dry grip and propioception but with the necessary protection against rocks and obstacles.

  • In favor, a minimalist cut shoe with transition details to get you started in this type of shoes or to improve your running technique in short outings to strengthen muscles of feet and calves but be careful with the adaptation to not injure yourself.
  • On the other hand, an unspirable shoe with premature wear of the sole. In any case this will also not be a problem because you will still be able to use it to stand or wear with some jeans because….I tell you that they look great.
