WORLD TRAIL MAJORS 2025. VIETNAM MOUNTAIN MARATHON JOINS: The Gran Canaria World Trail Majors has announced the Vietnam Mountain Marathon (VMM) as its latest addition to the 2025 circuit. This historic trail race, which has grown from humble beginnings in 2013 to attracting over 4,000 participants annually, will now take its place among other prestigious events in the series.

Held in the stunning landscapes surrounding Sapa, Vietnam, the VMM 100km race boasts 5,500 meters of elevation gain. Challenging participants with rugged trails through bamboo forests, rice terraces, and remote ethnic villages. The event offers not only an intense athletic challenge but also a cultural journey.
With distances ranging from 10km, 21 Km, 50 Km, 70 Km to 100km and a 100-mile option on special years, with the next date to be announced. The race is renowned for its festive finish line celebration, creating a community atmosphere where participants can share their experiences in a scenic hilltop lodge with panoramic mountain views. Its strong charitable mission, raising over $500,000 USD for local causes, adds another layer of significance to this beloved event.
A Global Stage for Vietnam Trail Running
Scheduled for September 19-21, 2025, the Vietnam Mountain Marathon marks the second new race in the 2025 World Trail Majors lineup, joining Australia’s Grampians Peaks Trail. VMM Race Director David Lloyd expressed pride in the race’s inclusion, highlighting the unique beauty of Vietnam’s oldest trail race and its warm, welcoming culture.
“We are proud to join with this amazing group of great races that make up the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors. We expressed our interest in joining this series as soon as it launched, immediately seeing it as a great opportunity to unite with world class races for the benefit of trail running here in Vietnam. Now that we have made it through the application, race inspection and voting process, we cannot wait to bring the beauty of Vietnam’s oldest trail race and the country’s trail culture to the world.

The Gran Canaria World Trail Majors is a coalition of 12 renowned trail races aimed at promoting sustainable, inclusive, and community-driven trail running. Other races in the series include the Anta Hong Kong 100, The North Face Transgrancanaria, and the Mount Fuji 100. World Trail Majors will start next January 16-19 at the Anta Hong Kong 100.
