GRAND FINAL IN ASCONA-LOCARNO 17-20OCT
From 17-20 October 2024, the Ascona-Locarno region will host the grand finale of the Golden Trail World Series. The “Ascona Locarno Golden Trail Finals” will see 160 professional athletes competing, including the top 30 trail runners in the world. The event will consist ofa 7-kilometre prologue with 400 metres of vertical elevation and a 23.5 km race with 1,400 metres of vertical elevation on the picturesque trails of Cardada, a beautiful local mountain surrounded by nature.
Both prologue and race run on “flower format” routes, featuring a start, finish and several passages through the Fan Zone, the beating heart of the event, where the public can fully enjoy the spectacle.
The “Ascona Locarno Golden Trail Finals” are not only reserved for professionals (ELITE). Amateurs and enthusiasts (OPEN) will have the unique opportunity to test themselves by running both prologue and race, experiencing the excitement and adrenaline of a world final.
Each athlete who scored points in one of this year’s GTWS 8 stages can have a shot at scoring more points in the grand final (although remember that the final is mandatory to be able to have a place in the overall ranking at the end of the season). And with a maximum of 400 points to win in this final – 100 points for the prologue and 300 points for the final race – anything can happen!
At this time, the leaders Elhousine Elazzaoui (MAR – Nnormal) and Joyce Njeru (KEN – Atletica Saluzzo), who have to defend their income, although anything can happen with the distribution of 400 points.

COURSES
prologue
Between Thursday and Friday, there will be a special prologue course for men and women. The prologue consists of a 7km “flower format” course with 400 meters of elevation gain in which both professional and amateur athletes can participate. The public will be able to see the athletes pass through the Fan Zone 4 times.
main races – finale
The finals will be held on Saturday for the women’s category and on Sunday for the men’s category and will feature a “flower format” course with a total length of 23.5 kilometers and a total elevation gain of 1,400 meters. The course offers a variety of tracks to suit all types of runners and is designed to take athletes through the fan zone six times.
