GOLDEN TRAIL WORLD SERIES 2024: KOBE TRAIL FIRST TIME IN JAPAN. Our GOLDEN TRAIL SERIES section brings to us the first-ever Asian race in the history of the GTWS, the Kobe Trail. It will open the 2024 season on 20th April.

The Golden Trail World Series makes its debut in Asia with stops in Japan and China. The season kicks off with the Kobe Trail, featuring a challenging 21km course with 2,109m of elevation. Athletes will tackle 4 loops, passing the start/finish 5 times.

KOBE TRAIL FIRST TIME IN JAPAN

A race that connects the mountains and the city. It is an urban trail running set in the Rokko Mountains. The race venue was set at Mount Maya Kikuseidai, an observatory famous for having one of the three best night views in Japan.

Sophia Laukli (USA – Salomon), reigning champion of the 2023 GTWS, enters as the big favourite for the season’s first race. However, she faces stiff competition from Maude Mathys (CHE – Asics), the 2020 Golden Trail Championship winner and 2021 GTWS winner, and Malen Osa (ESP – Salomon), eager to shine after a strong rookie season and finishing 4th at the 2023 GTWS. Allie McLaughlin (USA – Hoka), a standout performer at the 2022 Grand Final, returns alongside Daniela Oemus (GER – Nike Trail), who showed early-season dominance with a Zegama win last year. Keep an eye on Grayson Murphy (USA – Saucony), Joyce Njeru (KEN – Atletica Saluzzo), Sara Alonso (ESP – Asics), Sylvia Nordskar (NOR – Hoka), and Júlia Font (ESP – Brooks) as they vie for victory in Japan.

Patrick Kipngeno (KEN – Run2gether), coming off a strong 2nd place finish in the 2023 GTWS, leads the pack in the season opener. However, he faces stiff competition from his teammate Philemon Kiriago (KEN – Run2gether), a proven winner at Sierre-Zinal. Elhousine Elazzaoui (MAR – Nnormal), fresh off victories at the 2023 Dolomyths Run and the Grand Final in Italy, poses a significant threat. Roberto Delorenzi (CHE – Brooks), known for his consistent improvement, is also one to watch after podium finishes at the Dolomyths Run and Mammoth Lakes. Bart Przedwojewski (POL – Salomon), Daniel Pattis (ITA – Brooks), Álex García (ESP – Brooks), Cesare Maestri (ITA – Nike Trail), Miquel Corbera (ESP – Brooks) and the Japanese runner Ruy Ueda (JAP – Ruy).
