ADIDAS TERREX INFINITE TRAILS 2023 is coming up in Gastein/ SalzburgerLand In exactly three weeks, the Gastein Valley in SalzburgerLand will once again transform into a hotspot for trail runners from all around the world.

Over 1,100 runners from 44 nations have registered for this year’s edition is taking place from September 8th to 10th. Under the motto #celebratethesport, they celebrate the unique mountain world in which they run and the special community that has formed around this event.

While the race takes center stage, the INFINITE TRAILS are primarily characterized by the special “togetherness” and atmosphere, making this international community event a crowning conclusion to the season that trail runners look forward to all year and prepare for over months.

The race also attracts newcomers who have set their goal to run their first trail race in Gastein. From the arrival in the valley to the after-race Kaiserschmarrn (a traditional Austrian dessert) party on the summit of Stubnerkogel, passionate trail runners and running communities, enthusiastic spectators, caring helpers, and a perfectly coordinated organizing team can be found everywhere this weekend. The special vibes are palpable for all.

Whether experiencing their first competition in the 15K with 900 meters of elevation gain or ending the race season as an ultra-fan on the unique 60K course with 5,000 meters of elevation gain over three Gastein peaks, the ADIDAS TERREX INFINITE TRAILS claims to offer runners of all skill levels an unforgettable experience. Approximately forty percent of the participants are women.

In addition to plenty of elevation gain on beautiful single trails and around 350 highly motivated volunteers along the course, the meticulously organized race offers trail runners an almost luxurious post-race area with several saunas, a whirlpool, a swimming lake, and a physiotherapy center for recovery.

On race day, the Alpentherme Gastein is exclusively available to the athletes as an athlete garden, with free entry included in the race package. And so that even the last finishers can experience the exceptional atmosphere, the award ceremony also takes place in the thermal spa.

This is where the Gastein volunteers who have worked at refreshment stations or as course attendants during the day, join in. A large trail community celebrating their shared experience.

100K/d+7600M BY A TEAM 3 RUNNERS

The supreme discipline at the adidas TERREX INFINITE TRAILS has been the team race from the start. For a change, you not only run for yourself, but for your teammates. Three trail runners start at the same time in the morning as a relay in the categories women, men, or mixed.

All teams have to cover a total distance of 100 kilometers and 7,600 meters in altitude, divided into three different rounds that take into account different types of runners: Loop S = 21km/1900m – Loop M = 35km/2700m – Loop L = 44km/3000m.

Because of the shared start, all three team members have the same daylight race time to run their course. “This also allows slower runners to take part in this special format,” says Race Director Mike Hamel. “Because most of them are primarily concerned with training together, finishing together, celebrating together and sharing common memories as a team.”

NEW 30K RACE FOR SOLO RUNNERS.

With the introduction of the 30K, the INFINITE TRAILS course portfolio for solo runners has been expanded this year with an additional option. The highest point is just below Mauskarkopf at an impressive 2,330 meters above sea level. “This new distance is positioned right in the middle between the 15K RUN for rookies and the 45K marathon and offers our participants another choice,” explains Mike Hamel. “With around 1,900 meters of elevation gain, the 30K provides the perfect mix of steep ascents and flowing trails. It’s the ideal challenge for those looking to progress after successfully participating in the 15K last year and venture into alpine heights, or for those who can’t find team partners. We currently have 150 registrations for this new distance.”

REACHING THE TRAILS: PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION & SCENIC LIFTS

Not only as participant and volunteer but also as spectator and supporter, one can experience the adidas TERREX INFINITE TRAILS up close. On September 9th, the Gastein mountain lifts offer a “Wanderschaukelticket” for €30.80 (available online), allowing attendees to “swing” from peak to peak. Schlossalmbahn, Kaserebenbahn, Senderbahn, Stubnerkogelbahn, and Graukogellift are open continuously from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on this Saturday.

This way, trail running fans can first witness the start in the Alpenarena in Hofgastein, then cheer on the trail runners on the mountain in Bad Gastein, and celebrate the finish again in the Alpenarena. The Salzburg Verkehr® “Benzinfrei-Tag” enables locals and guests to travel to the event for free using public transportation within the federal state of Salzburg, as well as free use of all buses in the Gastein Valley. Early risers will be rewarded at the starting line on Saturday morning at 5:30 AM with free coffee and croissants.
