FAITH KIPYEGON BREAKS THIRD WORLD RECORD in less than two months at Monaco Diamond League. Our ATHLETICS section bring us today the fantastic World Record, broke by Faith Kipyegon in Monaco
Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon continued her world-record-breaking streak as she shattered the world one mile record at the Meeting Herculis EBS in Monaco. Running a mind-blowing 4:07.64, the Global Sports Communication-athlete lowered the previous world record of 4:12.33, set by Dutch athlete Sifan Hassan in 2019 at the same Stade Louis II track, by 5 seconds.

FAITH KIPYEGON BREAKS ONE MILE RECORD: 4:07.64
Kipyegon, a double Olympic and two-time world champion, was the clear winner by over 7 seconds from Ciara Mageean and Freweyni Hailu, running the latter half of the race alone.
After the race, a clearly over-the-moon Kipyegon said: “Monaco is a special place!! I’m so happy to break another record, and I couldn’t think of a more beautiful place for my final test. Thank you, Monaco.”
The 29-year-old has now broken three world records in less than two months with world records on the 1500m and 5000m at the Florence and Paris Diamond League respectively, and a one mile world record set in Monaco. Impressively Monaco’s one mile run marked Kipyegon’s first run over the distance since the Oslo Diamond League in 2016, echoing her 5000m run in June which came after an eight-year break from that discipline.
With the World Championships taking place in August in Budapest, Kipyegon will have high hopes of adding a third crown as she will be defending her title over 1500m. She has also confirmed she will contest the 5000m, where she is of course the current world-record holder.
