PATAGONIA RUN 2019: San Martín de los Andes, peace and tranquility in the Lanin National Park
SAN MARTÍN DE LOS ANDES: Headquarters of this great ultra trail, a city lakeshore Lacar at the southwest of the province of Neuquén, located in Los Andes, Argentina. San Martin de los Andes is the head of the department Lácar, located in an area of lakes, rivers and mountains surrounded by woods, ideal for holidays, recreation and sports such as ski, snowboard or trail running. At 640 meters altitude and 1575 km from Buenos Aires, nowadays about 28,000 inhabitants live there and can be accessed by National Route 401 or through the airport 21.6 km away from the center. For the Mapuche natives it is called «Pucaullhué», which means «Place of the seagulls».
One of the most important tourist center of the province, whose history goes back to 1898. It was then, when General Rudecindo Roca, decided to reoccupy the Fort Maipú and founded a town on the shores of Lake Lácar, in order to establish sovereignty about the region. Thus San Martin de los Andes was born on February 4, 1898 , by the hands of Colonel Celestino Pérez, being the last Patagonian city framed in the campaign to the desert. In 1937 The Lanín National Park was founded, which began to limit forestry activity in the 1960s; simultaneously there was a huge increase in tourism. With the construction of the Chapelco winter resort and the Sol de los Andes hotel, in the 70s, tourism became its main resource. Nowadays, San Martín is the headquarters of the Intendance of the Lanín National Park, a magnificent corner to enjoy all kinds of mountain sports, such as canoeing, climbing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, rafting, paragliding and even skiing and snowboarding in winter.

PATAGONIA RUN 2019: The races – 10K-21K-42K-70K-100K-100Mi
Running in Patagonia is always a special attraction for any mountain runner. For many of the runners who return to this event every year, the warmth of San Martin de Los Andes generates an atmosphere that is worth breathing, at least once at any distance. Beyond the atmosphere, the organization and the races, the event counts each year with great elite runners in all distances, who arrive from several places of the planet and who will fight until the end, like Pau Capell or Sergio Pereyra this year. In his 10th edition in 2019, the Patagonia Run is for the third consecutive year, one of the key races within the Ultra Trail World Tour whose full calendar can be seen below.
The 10th edition of Patagonia Run will be a great festival! A mountain trail run race, non-stop, for individual runners, which includes 6 distances: from trail run debutants and short-distance runners to long ultra-marathon distances and slope experienced runners. There will be two sub- marathon distances: 10k, 21k, a marathon distance: 42k, and three ultra-marathon distances 70k, 110k, and 100 Miles.
The big race (100Mi) will start on Friday April 12th by the Lacar Lakeside, whereas the remaining distances will start on Saturday April 13, from Alameda Street, 200 meters after the Entrance hall of the 4th Cavalry Regiment “Coraceros General Lavalle”. Even though all races have their own start time, they will have to finish all no later than 11:59pm at Saturday, meaning that the 100mi will have 37 hours to finish the race.
The registrations are sold out for all the races now except for the 100 miles which requires 12 ITRA points in three races of 2017-18, finisher of any races above 120k of the Ultra Trail World Tour 2017-18 or finisher of Patagonia Run > 100k or similar in length and altimetry, during 2017-18.

The 100 miles race is included UTWT and will be the main point of reference for the Patagonia Run, last year runners enjoyed cold weather but sunny and by night the summit at Cerro Colorado, after passing Cerro Chapelco the most important ski center in the city was waiting for runners. However, not only the 100 miles is important as the other distances also offered races with their own personality and with a level of demand recognized by the ITRA.
Today we start the trip to San Martin de los Andes! You can follow it all live from our website or in our social networks with #PatagoniaRunmayayo. Sergio Mayayo and Abel de Frutos will run the 42k and will describe all the races from inside.
