ISPO Award 2019: Vibram alongside La Sportiva with the best product for mountaineering

Vibram is celebrating together with its long-term partner La Sportiva on the occasion of the “Gold Winner ISPO 2019” award, which was attributed by the international jury of experts to the Olympus Mons Cube in the category “Mountaineering & Expedition Footwear”. The jury, made up of sector journalists, design experts, product technicians, retailers and athletes, defined this product “the ultimate in technicality for Himalayan technical mountaineering, Arctic crossings and extremely cold Alpine environments”, offering the best solutions in terms of thermal properties, lightness, rapid fitting, safety and waterproofing.

The boot’s lightness is where Vibram has proudly made its contribution with the sole equipped with the latest technology developed by the company, Vibram Litebase, which has been designed to drastically reduce the weight of the rubber sole while leaving the performance of the footwear unchanged.

The innovative solution developed by Vibram allows for a reduction of the rubber base by approximately 40-50%, from 1.7 mm to 0.5/0.9 mm (according to the type of sole), with a consequential reduction in overall weight of the sole of 2530%. The distinctive advantage that Litebase offers lies in the possibility for footwear brands to use extremely light soles which are identical to traditional Vibram soles in terms of design and compound, and which therefore have the same characteristics of grip, traction, duration and resistance to wear.

In the model voted as best in its category, La Sportiva Olympus Mons Cube, Vibram has combined Litebase technology with the Mont compound, which has been tested on the highest mountains in the world and developed to maintain traction performance even at extremely low temperatures for the utmost support and excellent resistance to wear. The heel, which is also extremely light, is made from Vibram Morflex Expanded EVA. Special characteristics of the sole: lightness, resistance to abrasions and thermal insulation.
This is an important success in terms of performance for the solid partnership between Vibram and La Sportiva, which has once again proved to be a winning combination.
